2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission tank sending unit acting weird

the fuel lt came on and the fuel gauge was about 1/8 left in tank, i put in 20 gal. and started the pu, the gauge said that now i had no fuel and the warning lt was on, i turned the switch on and then off 2 more times and every thing is back to normal. this is the 2nd time in 5 fillings tht this has happened. i think something is wrong with the switch wireing , but im not sure
