I have read some posts on replacing the tappet cover gasket without pulling the VP44 I just replaced my gasket and it was litterally imposible for me to get all the bolts out without pulling the pump. No that I am done with the job I would highly reccomend following the repair manual instructions to a tee. At 63 years old I will say it was not one of the easiest jobs I have ever done. I also found that when the dealer changed my VP44 at 3000 miles they didn't bother to put the pump braket bolts back in the block so it has been hanging on the four gear housing bolts for the last 213000 miles it has bolts in it now.
