Just rebuilt the motor and started it up today and everything looked good. Then I looked under the truck after a couple of minutes and had oil all over the ground. Looks like the tappet cover is leaking. It feels like the gasket has pushed out a little at several places where the block has a dip. Is there a certain way to put the gasket on thats best? I originally torqued the bolts to 20lbs. Also has anyone ever replaced the gasket with the pump on? Help is need quickly. Thanks

I just blew my tappet cover 2 weeks ago.

when i replaced it, i put 3M weather stripping adhesive in the groove of the gasket. so far so good

Michael

yep weatherstrip adhesive in the groove, let it cure, install dry to the block after cleaning the block with lacqauer thinner. Make sure the rubber washers under the bolts are good.
