Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) tappet cover

I was under my 97 today and I noticed that the tappet cover, which is made out of some type of cardboard metal type junk is warped at the bottom and I can see in to the area under it. Is this ok? It doesn't lead to the inside of the engine as I understand. It is a booger to change. Any one with some knowledge? Thanks in advance.

It's all metal with sound dampening insulation on the outside. If it's not leaking oil there is nothing wrong with it.

What you are seeing under is the tappet cover insulation, not the tappet cover. It's just an automotive sound deadener. If you ever had the injection pump off, you could remove it and trash it, then torque all the bolts holding the tappet cover to the block.
