Hi,

I will be installing additional driving lights, and want to switch them to only come on with high beams. Normally I would tap into the highbeam wire at the back of one light, use this as one leg of the coil circuit in the spotlight relay, and run the other leg of that circuit to earth through a switch in the cabin.

I have seen a thread on here saying this was still the right way to go for an older model (2007 I think). Has anyone done it this way on a '14, and did you get any error messages from the computer? Is there an easy way/place to pick up the headlight feed, other than the dreaded scotchclips?

Oddly, I can't spot this in the Body Builder's guide. Am I missing it there?

Thanks,

Matt

Body builders guide would most likely tell you to install via the Upfitter switches on the dash (if your truck is equipped)

I tapped into the high beam wire on my 2010 to run the power for the relay that supplied power to my LED light bar. I stripped a 1/4" portion of the high beam wire then soldered the relay trigger wire into it. I followed this up with some high quality heat shrink. I had no issues with the installation.

I quickly glanced for a high beam fuse or relay in the PDC under the hood....near the driver's side battery, but I had no luck. I can add this : My truck came without fog lights. I swapped the front bumper to a fog light style front bumper, and added the fog lamps. I utilized a fuse tap #ad
at the parking lamp fuse and used this as a trigger wire for my relay with zero negative effects.

I know you need a high-beam feed; I'll try to look more later on in the day when I have time.

I did this on my 2014 1500 with no issue...haven't tried it on the 2014 3500 yet but plan to do so when I add my driving lights.

There is no fuse for the high beam circuit. Its discreetly fed from the Body Control Module left and right side. I guess you could still tap the wire behind the headlamp as long as you seal everything up well. I don't think that a coil will trip the monitoring circuit since it has to have a +/- to the amp draw and a coil in not significant. Ken Irin

Can anyone provide the details on which wire or color of wire it is for the high beam circuit? I will be installing driving lights soon and will wire to the high beam circuit as well and need a feed for the relay.

You might be able to buy a pigtail and a light bulb at a auto parts store. Solder in the back half of the light bulb to the pigtail and connect the relay between the too.

Matt,
As DFitzwater said. Do you have the aux switches? The would be easiest to wire in..Unless you have to have with high beams, that is.

I have done this on my 2014, no problems. I feed one relay off of the drivers side high beam wire to feed the relay that makes my fog lights stay on with the highs and I tapped the passengers side high beam wire to feed the relay that triggers my light bar. I have had no problems with this set up. this was in place with stock bulbs and now as well with HID bulbs and still no problems. I believe it was a white wire with a green stripe.
