In the "Other" forum, there is a post about Driving to Alaska & in that forum, a member posted that driving across the border, into Can. , if you have 'extra' fuel, on board, you will be taxed by the Canadians.
Many of you have driven up to AK. from the lower 48 & many of those have auxillary fuel tanks, on board, or haul extra fuel in jugs. Have any of you been required to pay a Fuel Tax for the "extra" fuel you carried across the border?
I have a 115 gal. aux. tank & was wondering if I will have to pay that Can. Fuel Tax. If so, would it be better to just run the aux. tank empty into CAN. , since you will be paying US. fuel taxes & CAN. fuel taxes, if this is true.
I crossed the border, into CAN. @ Detroit, MI. back in '05 & did not have any problem with the aux. tank. I wonder if I just got lucky, on that trip, or is this taxation a recent change in CAN. tax laws?
Thanks for the advice.
