Yes, nothing is ever free and maybe I should have clarified that the software is the $10 standard version which they sent unsolicited for "free". There are charges to efile (like $20 for each efile) and $30 to unlock each state. So the "free" software can cost around $120 if I were to efile the fed and two states.
I would like to get software I can load on an old computer not connected to the internet and print the completed forms out. That way no data can be hacked. Its bad enough the software vendors will get you on a mailing list, but it'll be worse yet if the Feds allow "the trafficking of individuals' tax return information. "
