What tax software is everyone using and do you like it?

I used TurboTax online, it was alright. We have a pretty straight forward return with a simple 1040A.

I used FreeTaxUSA.com online. $10 for federal and $10 for state. Fed is free if you adjusted gross income is < $50K, which is not too likely with this group.

Thanks guys. A free copy of the H&R Block TaxCut came in the mail and I'm thinking of using it. It looks like TurboTax is the most popular one. I moved last year so I'll need two states and the federal. I'm wondering if there are any major differences between the different software programs.

I don't think that what came in the mail is actually "free". If you use it, I think you will have to pay either $19. 99 or $29. 99 for it on line. At least that's what I got out of the e-mail I got before they sent me my copy. Think about it, the only money I ever pay H&R Block is what I pay for the new CD every year, so why would they send it to you for free?



We don't have a state income tax here in Tennessee so all I needed was the Basic version. It's $9. 99 at Walmart.

Yes, nothing is ever free and maybe I should have clarified that the software is the $10 standard version which they sent unsolicited for "free". There are charges to efile (like $20 for each efile) and $30 to unlock each state. So the "free" software can cost around $120 if I were to efile the fed and two states.



I would like to get software I can load on an old computer not connected to the internet and print the completed forms out. That way no data can be hacked. Its bad enough the software vendors will get you on a mailing list, but it'll be worse yet if the Feds allow "the trafficking of individuals' tax return information. I had a pretty straightforward tax return that would have still hurt my head without Turbotax. Software asks the questions and tells me how much to pay. .

Paying $120 to do your taxes yourself? Why not go to a professional, pay less and have someone to stand behind you in case of an audit? My guy does the simple ones for $60 and I know it is right. Had a friend that used TT then got worried and went to a CPA and found that he had made a $1000. Just because the tax programs guarantee there calculations doesn't mean that they are right, just means that they can add and subtract correctly!

Been using Turbo Tax online for years now without any problems. . knock on wood :-laf

I've used Turbo Tax for about 5 years now with no problems. I tried Tax cut one year to see if it was better than Turbo Tax but I wasnt impressed. I stay with Turbo Tax.
