TC lockup hunts - need advice

I turned my smartbox off the other day and discovered that my TC lockup was acting up. With the Smartbox on everything works OK. Under light throttle at 45 - 50 mph the TC will lock and unlock erratically. Over 60mph it's OK. Also does it with OD off at lower speeds. I have assumed it needs the reflash and have an appointment to get this done next Friday. Does this sound like the reflash problem or something else? Why would this occur after so many miles (83K) ? Could it be the TPS?
