Two years ago I had an ATS 48RE transmission( I had ordered a 47RE, they sent a 48RE) put in to replace the original 727. Because these early trucks are not electronically controlled, the electronic commander had to be hand set by ATS for 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear shifting speeds, as well as lockup and overdrive. I had lock up set at 39mph and it unlocks at 32mph. We tow a 5th wheel and haul a camper and do a lot of steep mountain and forestry road traveling and I need a manual torque converter lock up for descending long, and or, steep roads. Could someone please send me instructions and diagrams for doing this? I called ATS about this, but have had no response so far as to how to wire in to the transmission to commander wiring harness. Thanx a bunch, Blue Dodge

The commander should have a nob on the front that allows you to set the lockup speed, at least the ones I have seen do. Since ATS did it they would be your best bet to figure out the solution. ATS has a programmable controller that works with their VB for conversions. Did you not opt for that piece?

Your can not change the TC lockup with the commander that was available at the time the transmission was put in as it is controlled electrically. Their newest command unit costs $1000. 00 and I'd rather not have to spend that much if a 3. 00 switch will do the job... ... ..... Thanx for the reply. Keith

Thats what I was afraid of. A simple switch will do it but not sure of the effect on the controller. Might be none, might be some. I just don't like advising usage of a mystery switch as it is really easy to pop an input shaft. You willhav to find the lockup wire and splice into it and that may just take some tracing as this is a custom install. If I can help PM me and we can kick around some ideas. Good luck.

Where are you located?

I'm located in Bend, Oregon. I'll nose around a bit to see if anyone can trace the location of the lockup wire. When I talked to ATS the guy mentioned something about splicing into the ground wire(blue) then said he would check with Clint and the guy that programmed my commander to see what can be done.
