I'm about 1200 miles from home pulling a heavy trailer. I just noticed, after dropping the trailer and going for fuel, that when I accelerate quickly that I get a roar from the engine an increase in rpm's but not extra torque or acceleration. It feels like the TC is slipping. This happens both in drive with the OD locked out, and with the OD on. It does not happen with the mystery switch in the on position. The fluid level is per specs, and there are no leaks or usage. The TC and transmission are about 18 months old, and have less than 10k miles on them. I know there is another cause for this happening other than the TC starting to go bad, but I cannot seem to find it doing a search. I just read something similar a few weeks ago on TDR, cannot remember exactly what was said. Any help would be appreciated. I'm currently in Las Vegas, and also would appreciate being directed to any trusted diesel/transmission shops you might share. I'm headed for home tomorrow and unless this is very serious I may just wait until I get home to deal with it. Today was the first time I've experienced this problem.

Thanks in Advance for any input.

What is the air temp there and how is your engine temp? I'm thinking the roar on acceleration might (hopefully) be a stuck fan clutch! You're hearing it running solo now because you're unladen and can accelerate better. If the fan is trying to draw a vacuum (it's thinking it's a Dyson) you'll get a lot of noise. Best of luck but I'd rather a fan clutch than a transmission!

I dont' want to hyjack the thread... but... I can notice in 3rd and 4th gear that my edge juice with attitude with show a 3 to 5% transmission slip. I does is constantly while towing. Most of the time around town it shows 0%. Is this normal? This is with the tow/haul mode on.

You really need to post this in the 3rd gen section if its about the truck in your sig. This is the 12V area. ;)

Thanks Bill--

Update----I pulled the pan, and the filter and pan were filled of metal debris. I called DTT and they were willing to send me a replacement TC, but not the transmission. Given that I'm stranded 1200 miles from home, I was not willing to hook up a new TC to a transmission that had metal debris flowing through it for over 200 hundred miles. I figured that I had a 50% chance of making it home without dumping another transmission. With the debris it appears that the failure is due to a lube failure. The culprit turned out to be a failed converter drainback value. I'm going with a new TC and a new transmission. The cash output really hurts, but at least I'll have a 3yr/100k nationwide warranty and I can get home or at least have repairs done on the way home.

Wow, how many miles on the trans?? did they not want to rebuild it for you at a discount or something? I am in Seattle and planned to use them when mine craps out... . not sure I want to now if they blew you off on it, its not like its a $1500 local rebuild they sell.

Thanks Bill--

I'm curious also! Did you go with DTT again or some else?

Seems you if had the transmission rebuilt or a ready to go trans from DTT they would back it up but I don't know what they quarantee on a whole trans rebuild.

Did you only have the DTT convertor or the whole DTT trans?
