I have a 96 Dodge Ram 3500. The 4x4 is not working. The Tcase when disconnected the driveline from the front diff, the driveline turns when put into 4-wheel drive. The vehicle is sitting on 4 jack stands, and when turning one front tire, the other doesn't turn or does the yoke on the diff. I figured it might be a broken axle, pulled the axle out and its fine. So could it be the automatic hub solenoid mounted on the passenger side of the axle? How would I go about checking this? I also pulled off the diff. cover and didn't see any broken teeth or gears.

I appreciate your help!

Pull the acuator off the front diff and with truck running(vacuum) have some one put the truck into 4wd and then back to 2wd and you should see the fork move. If not make sure all vacuum lines are good and connected. Then if still no movement it is probably the acuator on the axle. Seen one get rusted and seize up.

I guess I'd pull the lines off the front disconnect and see if you get any vaccuum. If you do, shift into 4wd and see if it changes lines. (I like to start with stuff I don't need wrenches for... . ;) )

Ok guys, what I did was connect the vaccum line to the transfer case directly to the pump to bypass any possible leaks inside the cab, checked for vaccum at the axle, nothing, checked all lines for holes, all is good. Looks like sensor on Tcase is bad, the one with the 4 hose connection. I will buy a new one tomorrow and swap it out. Thanks for your replys!
