I thought I would post this since there are many do-it-your-selfers on this board. When you find TDC with the timming pin like the service manual states, you either have the have a friend help or have arms 8' long. Here is a hint I use. Take a wooden stick about 3' long. A 3/4" square stock works the best. Cut a litle notch on one end about 1/4 " deep, making it only 1/2" thick at the very end. You could just use 1/2" square stock but it can break if you are not careful. Put the notch on the timming pin and wedge the stick between the valve on the injector pump. I think it is the fuel shutoff valve. I have the battery removed for more room. Take a bungee cord and tie to the other end and secure it to the hood hinge. This puts a leverage on the timming pin and the wood puts a slight pressure as well. Then you can crawl under the truck and crank away at the turning tool. When the timming pin aligns with the slot in the gear, you can hear an audible pop. The wood helps to magnifiy the sound. Don't forget to pull the pin back out when you are ready to rotate for the the next set of valves.
