We are a few days ahead of schedule and TDR Issue 117 is in the mail. It is being sent from the printer this week (7/18). Please allow two weeks for delivery to your mailbox.

What is new for the world of Turbo Diesel Register members?

With your help and participation for 16 years, we’ve produced a yearly calendar. Yep, it is time to submit those photographs for the 2023 edition. The due date for photographs is 9/5. Details are in the magazine and contained in this link: Announcing A Call for Entries for the Annual TDR Calendar Contest! | Turbo Diesel Register

Okay, that announcement takes up one page, what else will you find in issue 117?

Backfire: TDR’s “oil guru guy,” John Martin has some minor clarifications to make concerning his Issue 116 article.

10 Back: My review of Issue 77 started out in a ho-hum” manner. Upon further review, Issue 77 wasn’t as “ho-hum” as assessed.

Generations: As always, Greg Whale tries to capture the best problems/solutions correspondence from the TDR’s website.

Technical Topics: Have you wondered about how engineers developed the terms we use to measure power? Writer Tracy Martin gives us a historical look at “Horsepower and Torque.” TDR’s Joe Donnelly adds a sidebar article on his experiences with dynamometer testing.

Blowin’ in the Wind: Diesel performance enhancements are discussed as the EPA has been, and continues, to levy judgements against vendors and sellers.

Ready to Travel: For your entertainment and amusement, an interesting cross-country trip is presented.

Joe Donnelly gives us the nuts-and-bolts of an Aisin transmission fluid and filter change.

Stan Gozzi gives us a Bosch CP4 update.

James Langan
reports news from the 2022 Overland Expo.

Moses Ludel observes the 185K milestone on his 2005 Turbo Diesel and he gives the audience his maintenance story.

Kevin Cameron gives us a “big picture” look at the future of fuel injection.

I’m hopeful you’ll enjoy Issue 117 of the TDR.
As always, thank you for your support.

Looking over your article on the Ecodiesel. I had a 2018 that a dealer acquired from a prior dealership they purchased. I loved that it was 5000 cheaper than the Cummins and in the cheaper 1500. We absolutely loved that truck until it blew at 39000 miles. They wouldn’t put the newer version in its place so we traded it in. In my opinion it probably suffered clogged main journals even with Amsoil and frequent oil changes. If I’d known better at the time; to combat the EGR dumping shoot back in the motor, I’d at minimum changed that little oil filter more often. Why with 10.5 quarts of oil that it doesn’t have a bigger filter is beyond me. I’d also recommend not waiting for the 10000 miles and the monitor to change oil.
