TDR #128 has been delivered to the postal service for delivery to your mailbox. Let’s give the postal service the typical 7-10 days for actual delivery to your mailbox.

What will you find in your #128 magazine?

Let’s do a quick after-the-fact critique.

In response to an article I read, “How Far Can You Travel with an ‘Empty’ Fuel Tank,” the editor-dude and the writers spent way too much time trying to determine the amount of fuel remaining when the truck’s EVIC display reads “Range Low (<10 miles).”

The bottom line: We couldn’t make an accurate measurement of the remaining fuel. The text from an old Ram Owner’s Manuals tells me that the reserve capacity “corresponds to approximately 10% of the tank volume.” Got it, 10% is 3 gallons. Another bottom line, TDR Writer Doug Leno is correct, your EVIC display of miles-per-gallon is 10-15% optimistic.

How’s that for a summary.

Feel free to read the drama-filed pages the writers submitted in our quest to define “empty.”

Actually, it was a fun and interesting project.

Elsewhere in the magazine:

  • Recall 67A for 2013-2018 truck owners is discussed.
  • The 2025 HD Ram was not yet available for review/test drive. Nonetheless, TDR writer Andy Mikonis gives us a quick overview from the February auto show in Chicago. We understand this will be old news in May when your print copy arrives. We have been posting current updates on the new 2025 truck at our website.
  • Inspiration to get projects started in your garage: Several staff members tell you about their projects.
  • Our “BITW” column (Industry News) covers 14 pages of happening in the automotive world. You’ll be surprised to note that there is not one mention of tariffs in our news coverage.
  • The editor-dude files another report from the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida. What will he find interesting for year 2025? (Hint: It is a fun event/car show.)
  • Marketing 101: Shall we call it an “app” or a “subscription”? I’ll let you debate the revenue that automakers are trying to tap into.

That’s all for now.
As always, thank you for your support of the TDR.
