transmission Upgrades VS Full Rebuild

I recently let my TDR subscription lapse and missed issue 56. Reading the magazine index in issue 57 I noticed that there is an article in issue 56, page 82, on Odyssey batteries, model # PC1700, group size 65. I'm ordering issue 56, but in the meantime I'm in dire need of new batteries and this is one of the batteries I am considering. For those of you who read this article, could you give me a summary of what it said. I'm mainly interested in what vehicle they were installed in, a 2nd or a 3rd gen. , and whether or not the battery holder had to be modified for them to fit. I'm not concerned with the length or height, but the width is 7. 2 inches, which may be too wide. Any other info appreciated, thanks for the help.

Contact MRbobs distributing he can fill you in on all your questions he is a TDR member and distributer for the Batteries. IIRC they are a group 31 and slightly longer than our group 27's a piece of plywood will raise it enough you won't need to cut your batt tray.

wlowe this is what the paragraph says verbatim:

"Member Scott Hanna of Pittsburgh, PA called to update me on recent modifications to his '01. 5 truck that he uses in his hauling and snowplowing business. Scott reports that he changed to Oddessy [correct spelling = Odyssey] batteries after 5 years and 60,000 miles of use on the old batteries [I assume they're the stockers]. Oddessy [Odyssey] now makes a #1700-65 battery that has the terminal posts in the correct position for use in a Dodge Cummins without the need to extend the battery cables. He now reports that his engine starts much faster.

That's the entire commentary on the Odyssey batteries.

Thanks Bob for the heads up on Mr. Bobs distributing, I'll check into that.

Thank you Vaughn for taking the time to type out the whole article, I appreciate it. It seems that the article doesn't have as much info as I hoped, but it does specify what year the truck is that the batteries were installed in. I guess I will assume there were no problems on the install since none were mentioned. Thanks again.

I've been running Odyssey batteries for a few years. They are very tough with the metal jacket and their power and ability is way better than Optimas. My only complaint is that their terminals are poorly designed. As long as you don't have to mess with them too often, they will last years. They have the best warranty as well. When my terminals went out, a dealer swapped out both batteries no questions asked, no paperwork. I was very pleased.

I saw a pic where somebody put 2 in a 1st gen. Side by side, 1/4 turn from normal on the stock battery tray. Fit pretty good too!
