How do you react when someone spouts off complete baloney?

Perhaps all of us TDR members need to get our noses wet in the business world?. ? Maybe we should consider taking our 25,xxx membership into full swing and open a member owned USA made wholesale outlet with markups only allowing our cost plus some interest. We could eventually have a 100,000 store chain and force those that support the Chinese economy out of business or at least hurt them where it counts. We as TDR members have a strong community with a mostly strong backbone and we could really do this. I feel that if we opened one store in our most TDR populated area and ran it properly we could have 5 more stores in one years time and this would include not paying our CEO 1 billion a year as a salary but rather a modest income. I'm sure we could find within our community enough employees that would quit their factory or meaningless jobs to help run our store chains and we could promote within. We can definately do this because I know the majority of the USA population would buy from us if we sold NOTHING but USA made products for the same price as Walmart does and we can do this because we won't have top execs making huge salaries. I would quit my hauling contract and become an employee as well just to help do my part in boosting the USA economy. Some of you are probably thinking I've lost my mind suggesting the sorts of this but until you take a hard look into your lives and have a family that you really care about and think of what they will endure once you are gone you will understand what I feel here. I am terrified of what my kids will have to tolerate as a US citizen many years after I am gone. Maybe we should start a new thread and get a poll going as to who would get involved in this and start standing up for their God given rights!

DM, You must have took my post wrong. I was merely trying to get across that Walmarts profit margin is 90% because they pay their execs huge salaries and our profit margin would only be 10-15% with our execs only earning modest incomes since we would be doing this for the good of our USA economy.

Levi Jean Co is a perfect example. They used to sell jeans made in the USA that lasted 3 years until Walmart started selling other brands for 1/2 the price forcing them to take their production to another countries economy to compete with Walmarts brands pricing. Now their jeans only last 3 monthes and I for one will never buy them again. Now if we could sell their jeans at Walmarts prices and they are made in the USA again and known that they would last 3 years versus 3 monthes... people will buy them and the company would move production back to the USA and boost our economy. And boosting our economy would do such things as lower fuel costs because demand is down in foreign countries because the economy hurts from lost business, etc etc.

I spent a summer as a youth working under Sam Walton at the original store in Arkansas and he never intended for his predecessors to turn Walmart into a monopoly run by greed. In fact he was the man at the entrance doors greeting people with a handshake and helping people load things into their cars. When was the last time anyone of us went to Walmart and had one of the owners shake our hand? Not gonna happen... all they want is our almighty dollar.

I know I'm by far the most intelligent person in TDR land and many questions and answers are needed before we dive in but it CAN be done! If a man such as Donald Trump can build an empire worth billions why couldn't our 25,xxx members band together to do our share in making the economy in the USA boom back to life? I'm not meaning we should all become millionairres from a business like I'm suggesting but rather 25,xxx members together will have at least a better chance together to make this work. If we all believed in ourselves and our God given rights as much as we all do in our truck engines then this is no harder a task than wiping our a** if we can come together.

Looking for ideas in Iowa,Chris

To cover startup costs, everyone buy $5 worth of powerball tickets (125,000Tix) Slim chance of winning but something like 200Mil will get us going.

If one of mine win I promise to tell you guys, too.

I agree with you. I used to wear Levi's until they stopped making them in the U. S. Now I wear Wranglers. It is sad how corporations are making the money (and not American workers)from imported goods. The problem really lies in the average consumer that only looks at price. Seems like this country did well in the 40's, and 50's when most of the products used in this country were made in this country.

As to being by far the most intelligent at the TDR, that can't be possible as everybody knows that I am the most intelligent. :-laf :-laf I am sure that you meant to say "not the most".....

If you want companies like Wal-mart, Sam's club and Costco to change, quit shopping there... .

Are CEO's of large companies out of control, yes.

Are large unions' out of control, yes.

Eliminate these issues are you will help the business world tremendously.

Very interesting topic CSnyder. Very interesting indeed. It will take a huge helping of anti-apathy pills to get the membership as a whole interested, but you do have my attention. Been mulling this idea over since Wrenchhead.com was bought out by NAPA and they drove the prices out of the roof. It is definitely a difference between everyone up top being rich or being comfortable. Don't let this idea die off. Maybe some capitol and people willing to take a shot at making a difference can make this rocket.

GFritsch - "I used to wear Levi's until they stopped making them in the U. S. Now I wear Wranglers. " Wrangler closed their stateside manufacturing plants in 1992 or 3 and moved to Mexico. There may be a plant or 2 left here in the states, but the majority is south of the border. It was horrible. 350 people lost their jobs here and there was no place to move into another job. Thankfully there were some people like CSnyder that decided they would take a chance on our little podunk area and started up some other businesses, but we have a ways to go before we recover. (this was not meant as a slam, just making a point about so called American made products).

Low prices would be cool... but I fully back my local diesel performance shop, Hot Rod Diesels

I know nothing will ever come of any of this thread, but... If such a place did exist, it would put many small low budget establishments (that just happen to CARE about their customers!!) out of business :(

The only way it would be TDR run is if it were to become a part of Geno's Garage... And I don't see the TDR/Geno's asking the members to make investments in them.

Or, to put it short and sweet...

BAD IDEA

If that's what you think, you're building your business plan based upon an erroneous premise. From Wal-Mart's website:

BENTONVILLE, Ark. , August 16, 2005 -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. reported record second quarter sales and earnings for the quarter ended July 31, 2005. Net sales were $76. 8 billion, an increase of 10. 2 percent over the second quarter of fiscal 2005. Net income for the quarter was $2. 8 billion, an increase of 5. 8 percent from $2. 7 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2005.
$2. 8 billion divided by $76. 8 billion equals 3. 65% profit. You can invest your capital any number of places and get better after-tax return than 3. 65%

I never said it would be run by the TDR but rather us the members putting our heads and financials together as a whole and running this operation. Of course if the owners of TDR wanted to get involved in the business they as well would be welcome.

Do you really believe they are operating a business only making 3. 65% profit? You should read up more on the company.

If more people really stopped to thing about this this country would be a lil different. Its like here;folks buy Honda cars because "there made right here in Ohio". Really? Wheres the money go once that car is sold?
