I was sure by now somenone would have responded to the results of the TDR Oil tests showig amsoil as either acceptable or ho-hum based on additive packaging. So, how about the report: was it apples and oranges or not? I have been using amsoil for 25 years, but I am about to change to one of the better performing oils. I would also like to see the additive package for 15-40 diesel oil.

If you have been happy using the Amsoil for some 25 years, why would you want to change now? Is it because of the "testing" TDR did?
First off, I think they have the wrong info for the Amsoil (AME) HHD & Marine 15W-40 oil. They report it as a 5W-40 oil which it isn't. They also report the TBN 10. 4, when the website clearly shows it to have a TBN of 12. 1.
They also report the Viscosity as 13. 9 @ 100 C. when the actual Viscosity is 14. 4.
What gets me is the "Zinc" they reported for the Amsoil (#10) oil was 1130.
My Used oil anlysis with over 50,000 on the oil was reported as 1439!
The Phosphorous they reported was 952! Again my
last used oil analysis reorted as 1158! Would driving that many miles on oil put MORE Phosphorous and Zinc in the oil? I don't think so!
If the oil analysis lab they used did the testing in accordance with the ASTM Standards, there should not be this much of a disparity!
They also did not look at other factors, such as (VI) Viscosity Index, which would tell you how much change in Viscosity occurs with temperature.
HT/HS, which looks at the shear rate at High temperatures. Mineral oil viscosity does not change much with shear rate, that is, they are Newtonian fluids. However, the viscosity of multi-grade, non-Newtonian oils usually decrease with shear rate because of the temporary alignment or breaking down of long chain hydrocarbon molecules to form shorter molecules. 2. 8 mPA. s is said to be the MINIMUM HTHS viscosity needed for normal wear, with the higher the HTHS being better for minimum wear. The Amsoil (AME) has a HT/HS of 4. 4 mPa,s.
As we all know, they did not look at the oil Base Stocks, which have a great deal to do with how well an oil performs.
I do believe had they done more than just "Oil Analysis", they could have produced a better profile of oils. However, this would have cost them thousands of Dollars.
Now I am not against the TDR for doing a comparison testing of engine oils, nor am I suggesting they have a "Hidden Agenda". I do beleive the report given does not reflect the true (AME) HDD & MARINE 15W-40 oil (#10).
Am I going to change my oil brand due to this report? Absolutely not! I have a great testimony of this oil after having used it in my vehicles for more than 27 years, and some of my vehicles went over 100,000 on a single oil change!
