TDR Software Upgrades

This morning beginning around 3:00 am TDR underwent some major software upgrades. For the computer geeks like myself who might be interested here are the details:

• Mysql database server replaced with Maria database server. This is a drop-in replacement for mysql, and provides increased database performance and scale-ability.
• PHP 5.3 upgraded to PHP 5.6. PHP 5.3 reaches official end of life Sept 1, 2015, so it was imperative we upgrade. PHP 5.6 provides speed advantages over 5.3.
• VBulletin 4.2.2 upgraded to VBulletin 4.2.3. This was required since 4.2.2 has problems with PHP 5.6.

Also, please note the site may be slow for an hour or so while I tune the new database software.

Ken- I have no idea what any of that stuff means but I'm sure glad you're here to keep things working! (& don't pay any mind to Rusty!) :-laf

Think of it this way.... I pulled out a 2nd gen engine (the database software and PHP software) from a 2nd gen truck, put in a 4th gen engine. Then when that was done... I swapped out the body (VBulletin 4.2.2) for a 4th gen body (VBulletin 4.2.3).

Believe it or not, I enjoy that kind of server work... except when mystery bugs rear their ugly head!
