Integrated trailer brake control nodule

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:The customer may describe an intermittent condition where the trailer brakes feel as if theyare not working for the first few brake applies. This condition only happens if the trailer hasbeen connected before the vehicle was started.

Bob
Does this mean when we are towing and shut off the engine that we have to unplug the trailer light cord before restarting the engine???

Well took "Cherry" our 2015 3500 in for flashes today at Superstition Springs dealer is Mesa, AZ.

They did:

TSB 08-82-16 ITBM
TSB 08-044-16 RFH RF Hub
TSB 21-004-16 TCM
TSB 05-013-15 ABS
TSB 08-017-17 BCM
TSB 18-037-16 PCM

They did not have a loaner available so they rented an Enterprise RAM 1500 Hemi for me. It had something I wish my RAM had. Above the cruse control buttons was the -/+ shift buttons for the 8 speed transmission. I sure wish my buttons were located on the steering wheel like this 1500 instead of on the shift lever!!

A couple things changed their defaults. Doors were locking when the truck started moving and I had to change that back. The horn is sounding when I lock the truck and I will have to silence that, not a nice thing in the RV park.

I let off and got back on it quickly to make sure that dead pedal was not added with these flashes. Seems OK, or no different than before the flashes.

So it was not to bad for my first trip to the dealer with this new RAM. With the 2001.5 is took a couple trips to turn on the cold weather high ideal.

I have both a 2015 EcoDiesel 1500 and a 2017 Diesel 3500 and I HATE the 1500's shift on the wheel! To each his own..

I did not like the PND knob. I did like the buttons on steering wheel to control highest hear and cause it to show what gear it is in vs mine in the side of the shift lever that sometimes take more than one push.

Snoking

I'd really rather not have my truck flashed as it has been trouble free. Is there a way to know if my truck is in fact dysfunctional by maybe the build date? *

If you trusted the engineers enough to buy the truck, why would you not trust them to fix issues that they have found over time with vehicles in actual use?

I in particular wanted the ITBM update. Also under certain conditions I had the Aisin hunt between 1 and 2nd gear when rolling through a stop sign. Also had a bit of a lope going real slow through RV Resort up North. Will not know if that has changed unit we get back there in 6 weeks or so.

equipped with Trailer Brake Control (Sales Code XHC).

I let my MaxBrake go with my 04. I've regretted it ever since my first tow with my 15.

Don't feel like the loan ranger! I let mine go also. Custom paint job and all.

Until one towed with a Brake Smart or Max Brake they just did not understand. When I bought my Max Brake I really kicked myself for not getting the Brake Smart years earlier. I hated my Prodigy! SNOKING

The horn honking, lights flashing, chimes, bell ringing racket when someone locks/unlocks their car is a real pet peeve of mine. Some folks seem like they need to perform this function several times just to make sure.

I can not wait to tow the trailer home to Washington next month, as the transmission shifting feels better and smoother. Reading what I can find on the TSB gear hunting may improve.

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
1. Reprogram the TCM with the latest available calibration. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the “HELP” tab on the upper portion of the wiTECH window, then “HELP CONTENTS.” This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.
2. Once programming is complete, perform the “Quick Learn” procedure using the wiTECH diagnostic scan tool.
3. Clear all DTCs that may have been set in any module due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow them to be cleared.
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
TIME ALLOWANCE:
NOTE: The expected completion time for the flash download portion of this procedure is approximately 3 minutes. Actual flash download times may be affected by vehicle connection and network capabilities.

FAILURE CODE:
The dealer must choose which failure code to use. If the customer came in with an issue and if the dealer finds a software update to correct that issue, use failure code CC, for all other use failure code RF.
• If the customer’s concern matches the SYMPTOM/CONDITION identified in the Service Bulletin, failure code CC is to be used.
• If an available flash is completed while addressing a different customer concern, failure code RF is to be used.
