AS some of you might have read I got a blue chip replacement VP 44 the Diesel repair shop hard sold me on the Smarty. Lots of people chimed in on the other post about how great the smarty is ..... I do not doubt it. I am not a high HP king when i had my edge COMP. I dynoed my truck and I was running 285 HP and 750 FtLBS of TQ. I was very happy with the reliability and the power. I tow a 30 ft fiver toyhauler gross weight with truck trailer and everything was 18500. Truck handled every grade fine I had no complaints and i did not have to drive by the Pyro for most of the time. Only when the tempature was above 100 degrees did i have to keep track of it.

SO... . Now I will be using the Smarty!!! I will not be stacking. Can someone help me to understand the settings on the smarty and what setting to get the same performance as i had with the Comp.

I have the BHAF. 4 inch down tube and a 4 inch with resonator exhaust. I have all the fuel up grades Pump relocated to the frame rail. fuel pressure gauge, 3 disc TQ converter, upgraded trans valve body.

I will be leaving next friday for My 3 month vacation driving thru Canada from Wasilla then to Juneau to pick up the ferry and go to Bellingham where I will pickup my Trailer and harley and head to FLA. So My learning curve with the Smarty will be very short.

What I am asking for is helpful hints or advice from smarty users that have experience with the smarty.

Thank you in advance.

Can't tell you any fine details of Smarty but it does give you alot of low end grunt. I have had mine for 8 years and have it set to level 5 and have left it at that.

Even numbered tunes are designed to be run with a timing box, so you really are only concerned with the odd numbered Catchers. #9 is a pretty hot tune and shouldnt be run with a stock auto trans/converter. #7 makes real good useable power but when pulling a heavy trailer on steep grades egt's have climbed enough to grab my attention a few times. For daily driving I run #5, its a good all around tune for my day to day needs. I also get better fuel mileage off of it than stock form or even the economy tune Smarty offers. I like the ability to use it as a Scanner tool and the abs update. Ive ran it on my former 00 and now on my 98. 5 and never had any problems or complaints.

UPDATE.

Got the truck back. New Blue Chip VP44. With the Blue Chip i purchased the Cover with the Tap connetion for the pump wire as i was going to reinstall the edge COmp. The Shop talked me into the Smarty and out of reinstalling the edge Comp. as I was looking for long term relaibility. I have all gauges big air in and Big down tube and big exhaust out. Stock injectors and built transmission. as I said before i dont like change. anyway been driving the truck on smarty level 7. Hard to compare to a edge Comp on 5X5 That really made a difference. Since I will be pulling my 5ver soon to FLA I am going to leave it at this level and see what happens I am very happy with the diesel shop. they took good care of my truck protected the seats and at this point i am very satisfied. The owner knew I was going to be going on this road trip so he did a thorough inspection and found a U joint on the Right front axel cracked. I had him replace both. As far as the Smarty ??? we will see how i feel after i play with it some more and tow with it. ROKS Diesel Performance in Wasilla AK did my work I am A very Difficult customer in general and they did great by me.

Thanks for reading.
