My exhaust manifold cracked between the #5 and #4 ports (Rear of engine). The ATS replacement I have on order is on back order and do not have a ship date. Is there a temp fix I can do so I can still drive the truck empty?

A skilled welder might be able to weld it for a temporary fix if you remove it from the truck. I think it will crack again but a professional welder could offer a better opinion than mine.

Obviously, care would have to be taken to avoid twist or expansion during the welding operation that would prevent a tight fit.

I would not go to the trouble of pulling it to do
The weld repair
The egt's the engine is capable of providing is
Plenty of pre heating

You could TIG it with stainless rod. Drill a hole at both ends of the crack to stop it. Grind yourself a bevel along the length of the crack. I agree with using the engine or pre heat and post heat.

If you're not hauling anything or driving up mountain grades or driving into headwinds on the highway then you should be fine driving it the way it is. How bad has it affected your boost?

If it's going to be awhile before the ATS comes in you could probably scare up a used 24-valve manifold somewhere, stuff like this seems to come along pretty often in the Competition Diesel board classifieds.

i have mig'd a cast manifold but i preheated it to around *900 on a propane burner and cooled it as slowly as i could, it was a fairly beefy turbo manifold and i was building material and not doing crack repair but it was a success
