My temp gage goes waco somtimes. I will be just cruising down the highway at a temp of 175-180, and the sudden it will shoot to 210 for a few seconds then back to normal. Anyone have any ides what causes this to happen?

Ever change your thermostat. Might be time for that little exercise. Make sure the wires going into the sensor are not chafed and make sure the the connectors are good and snug.

Mine sometimes does that too. Usually on the freeway, just after the thermostat has opened the first time it appears to close again, and go over 200 degrees then re-open. All is well after that.

the temp gauge on my 96 is all over the place, but mostly it is normal and then will drop down all of a sudden. This is common on 96's. Look in the archives, there are many articles on how to fix this if you want. I don't think your engine is changing temps, it's just the guage... .
