2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission temp gauge

I have a question about the factory temp gauge, with 190 degrees mark being strait up how far past this mark should the needle be before you hear the clutch fan kick in. I've had this truck for 41/2 years and I don't think it has kicked in once. Thank's in advance and happy new year to all Don

Mine only came on once in two years. And it happened when I was driving up Mt Washington. You will know it when it happens, it sounds like a helicopter is about to land on you. These things have a pretty efficient cooling system so you probably won't hear it unless you are towing or really working the engine.

Mine kicked in and out steadily last summer towing the 5ver. It engaged consistently at half way between 190 and the next hatch mark. Stayed engaged until the temp dropped to 190 or a bit above.



That confirmed the fan clutch operation and it does dramatically move air to cool things down, which was good to know. I thought it was a bit much in the 70 degree weather though. Later, I looked at the radiator and saw it was gummed up with fan clutch silicone oil and cottonwood seeds. Flushed those out and I think the fan clutch won't be needed as much.

Thank's for the information,the needle on mine might have gone one needles width past 190 sence I've had it Don

I watch mine go just past 190 by a needle's width, then the thermostat opens up and it settles into 190 and stays there for the most part.

I've had the fan clutch just start to engage with the A/C on, slow traffic and 90-plus degree day. That, in addition to the towing I mentioned before.
