I'm installing a temp sender in the PTO Cover on my NV5600. I bought a B&M drain plug from Geno's. It is tapped to accept a 1/8 NPT plug so I'll be putting the drain plug in the PTO cover and screwing the sender into it. I need to know if I should install the sender below or above the fluid fill line. I read somewhere on TDR a discussion about this, only it was regarding the differential covers. If I remember correctly the thread said above the fluid level was the appropriate place (it’s hotter there). My PML cover has the sender above the fluid level. I have the PTO cover off and will put the sender in a location that can go either way, simply by rotating the cover 180 degrees. Please post your opinions.

Either way would be ok, but your get more accurate and punctual reducing from submersing the sensor in the fluid do to the faster heat transfer rate. If its just as easy to put it in the fluid, do it.

Absolutely in the fluid. These sending units are not designed to be in the air, liquid will transfer heat quicker, plus the fluid will be hotter than the air.
