I wish to install a temp sensor on the Mag-Hytek diff cover and assume that the sender installs where the plug is now in the middle of the cover. If this is the correct location, has anyone had any interference with the spare tire during full rear suspension compression.

there should be a 1/8 npt plug on the top of the cover. up there it reads the temp of the fluid thrown off the ring gear.

Yep... seems odd to not be bathed in the fluid, but I guess it works. . . and the sender is safer up there. .

Thou based on the few people I have talked to who have a mag and a diff temp. . there is no need for diff temp...

Several years ago when the Mag-Hytec Differential cover was being developed, the owner, Roy Rothlisberger, asked me to do some temperature testing with the cover. He had me install a temp sender in the top port, which is now standard, and another one in a bottom port. I connected the gauge from these two senders thru a switch, where I could monitor each temp sender independently. The top sender was consistently 10 DEG. F. higher, so he determined the top of the cover should be where the temp sender location should be. I ran this setup for about 6 months to get a good indication of the running temp in the differential. Roy has since passed on and left the business to his son Jerry.

In my opinion, the Mag-Hytec covers are top quality!

most people dont use a diff temp guage unless they are towing very heavy loads..... the average joe would do it for another guage... ... ... ... ... which i might do... . :)

Why do you say there is no need for a diff temp.

From what I understand with the mag-hytec cover you won't have any overheat issues. A local buddy with 500+hp would tow 20K+ and never even get close to hot...

That being said... whats another gauge on the dash :D

The hottest I've seen my diffs, front or rear, was about 230° F... and that was after about 35 hours of interstate driving grossing about 19k.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't recall the port up on top but only remebered the dipstick tube. That location would certainly get it out of harms way. I guess it makes sense that the hottest oil would be the stuff that just got squeezed out from between the gears. Thanks again.

Saved me----not much to look at on the dash--- but one day the diff was running a bit hot on the highway, then hotter/hotter etc---decided to check at the rest stop. Rear axle seal let go and was down 2 quarts. Saved me a big bill but for most part i like my 9 gauges in my 01 and the 07 mega will get a bunch too. DW
