I did a little searching and haven't found this in any previous threads; hoping you guys can help.

With everything working correctly, last week I pulled the dash for an overdue replacement from LMC. I pulled the clear shield off of the instrument cluster to wipe down the gauge faces and clean the shield. I moved the needle on the temp gauge and speedometer while cleaning. Reassembled and reinstalled the dash (mostly) , I reconnected the batteries. A moderate spark from the positive terminal was a surprise, but attributed to the interior and hood lights.
I later realized that I left the key on (instrument bezel - automatic gear selector in low for access). I was focused on a system check, HVAC, radio, etc before I finished the install, so I started the engine and confirmed my system checks. That's when I realized the speedometer was pinned max. and the temp gauge was reading 170°F on a cold start. I didn't move it and shut it down.
My best guess w to correct was to reverse my actions and to disconnect the batteries, remove the instrument cluster shield and manually push the needles to their "home"position, and reconnect. The speedometer flipped right back to 0. But the temp rises right back to 170.
I consulted the FSM and ran the system diagnostic, with no faults. I watched the needles on all gauges bounce through their there locations as they should, with the exception of the temp gauge. It bounced from 170 to max (passed 230) and stayed there for the third position.
I've driven the truck since and the Speedo works as it should. The temp gauge starts at 170 and pins past 230 when it warms up.
I'm thinking that I "resest" the low setting, possibly because the key was on. . . , maybe?

Can anyone tell me how to reset this one gauge?
Surely, I didn't rotate the needle on its pin. I was really very gentle. I think the issue is the position it was in (170°) when I reconnected it. I'm also really hoping that I don't need to get to one of those three ******* harness connections to the back of the junction box (fuse panel).

Any ideas? All help is appreciated.

Yikes, replying to help bump it up, maybe.

I've had my dash out twice. Once to replace the heater core and evap. NOTE: Both purchased from Dealer Parts Dept. Second "a week later to replace the faulty heater core" purchased. Got smart and tested the second one prior to install. What a RPIA! At least the second time only took 6 hours versus 8 the first time... Oh, the boxes had stickers on them that read "Genuine MoPar Replacement Parts" and in super small text at the bottom of the stickers one read "Made in Taiwan" and the other "Korea"...yep real "Genuine" alright.

I've also, at least 4 or 5 times removed the dash bezel and the clear cover for the gauges to clean. Fortunately I didn't try to clean (except for low air pressure) the gauge cluster itself.

I'll be following to see how folks recommend to resolve your situation.

In the meantime, if no one has an answer, and so you can confidently drive your truck - consider an aux temp gauge???

Good luck to you.
