Anyone else with a 2001 truck notice if their temperature reading is way off or doesn’t move after turning on the ignition? I am wondering if mine is screwed up or are the 2001’s all that way. I had a 1998 truck on which the temperature reading was always right on or very close to the real temperature outside. It would also update as I drove through shaded areas and/or into rain storms where the temp would drop about 15 degrees very rapidly. My new 2001 truck doesn’t do that. I welcome all input.

mine seems to work fine, although on my 99 every once in a while I would have to put it into calibration mode for the compass which would reset the thermostat also.

My only experence is with a '95 but I doubt if they changed much. The temp from the last time you turned off the igg. is stored and displayed for up to 5 minutes the next time you turn your rig on. After that it displays the average temp for a one minute period,so you will only see a change every minute. One thing I've also noted is that if you're not moveing much the engine heat will influence the reading, this is due to the location of the sensor, behind the grill on the radiator housing. I think maybe your unit is ok.

Working fine here, finally able to register over 70 here in the soggy NW #ad
And its very accurate

Not ditto here.

How's this for weird: Cruising through the Mojave Desert one HOT day, the temperature display would not go over 100 degrees. I switched the display to C and the temperature would climb 4-6 degrees within 5 minutes. I would switch back to F and the display would read 110 or so and then drop back to 100 over a 5 minute period. I repeated this experiment 2-3 times with the same results during that road trip.

Other times, the display would show 10-20 degrees off (steady at 67) for the entire time that the ignition was on. Starting the truck the next time would show a good display again.

And have also experienced problems with the compass, but performing the recalibration steps would fix that. I wonder what people thought as I made three slow circles in the parking lot!!!!!

Mine was reading way too hot most of the time, Dodge replaced the read out & sensor, but it still was reading too hot. I finally relocated the sensor by moving it straight up about 6" to the end of it's wire, & screwing in place in the new, higher position. I think it's deadly accurate now, it was picking up prop wash from the cooling fan when the engine warmed up... DDG

HGH,

That sounds almost exactly what my readout is doing, although I am in Texas. The display doesn't change after starting and driving for extended periods of time. If the truck sits for a while and completely cools down, the temp display seems to be right. Sounds like a bad sensor or maybe a bug in the software.

My console seems to read ok and I have watched it chenge when going into a spot I would suspect be a different temp. I wore a disguise when circling the parking lot... . Larv

Did DC ever come up with a remedy for those thermometers that would start reading outrageous temps, when it got to be over 90 degrees. Mine will jump to 130 or so. I read about this problem before I bought the truck in Motor Trends "truck torture test" back in 1998

Mine works good also, looks like you just got a bad one BigCarl. Now wonder how easy for dealer to replace. I bet it is tied to main CPU.
