Hello everyone... I've been a subscriber for a while, but haven't posted anything yet.

Yesterday on the way home the check gauges light and bell when on. Oil pressure was zero!!! I pulled over and shut down. Temps were fine. I restarted... . no pressure. Shut down... waited briefly deciding what to do. turn on ignition watching the oil gauge during the gauge test... this time it came up. Restarted the engine and oil pressure was instantly at its normal level. Has been fine since.

Has anyone seen this... I'm wondering if I'm the sender is going out... . Oh, by the way I check the oil level - All Ok...

If were just about anything other than Oil Pres I'd just wait until it happened again, but...

Truck is: 2001 3500 QC 4X4 Auto 3. 54 : Chrome Brushguard, b&w turnover hitch, tekonsha brake controller 37,000mi

There is a TSB out on this problem. A reflash is suggested to fix the problem.

same thing

same thing happend to me a month ago... . it would be on and off... . it was my sending unit and DC replaced under warranty... . glad they did it is a $200. 00 sending unit

Re: same thing

:) I found the TSB it is TSB # 09-001-01

Thanks RamBoat I'm glad to know that it is not a major problem.

:D

I love this site... .

Now if I can just talk the wife into letting me start Bombing this thing!..... ;)

How I did it.....

Tod... .

Same thing happened to me. Went to my brilliant mechanic whom I trust implicitly. I avoid my dealer like the plague.

He and I both found the TSB, which as you know clearly states that replacing the sender won't fix the problem. I've read so many horror stories about reflashes which my mechanic agreed with. He called a dealer diesel guru he knows and trusts and discussed the reflash concern.

The diesel guy said to replace the sender and not do the reflash because this reflash is the mother of all reflashes and includes all the prior ones. Therefore, it would be a gamble on whether you'd end up with the loss of power and other symptoms other people have griped about after a reflash.

So, we bought a sender from Cummins... . ~$65. 00 vs. ~ $185 from dealer... and installed it. That was 4K miles ago and no problems since. The sender has one year warranty. For me, it was worth the $$ out of my pocket to stay out of the dealer... . scary quality diagnosis and work, bomb issues, etc.

Just wanted to offer a different perspective.....

Re: temp loss of oil pressure

I had the same deal. about a year ago then summer came around oil levels were fine and pressure dropped intermittently. Seemed to occur more when temps dropped down, so I am expecting the same event to occur again this fall.

May need to invest in oil sensor from cummins this fall.

EXACT same thing happened to me a while back. Mine was a faulty sending unit as well. 30 minutes at the dealer and back in business (no reflash!!!). Best of luck!!

I had the same problem on my '99. Was a bad sending unit. Easy fix (waranty), but it sure freaks you out when it happens!!!

To send someone a link to any webpage:

While on the page you want them to see (this one), high-light the entire address (on the top) with your mouse.

Hold down the "Ctrl" key and press "C" to "copy" the text to your clipboard.

Then start a new e-mail to the person.

While in the message area, hold down the "Ctrl" key and press "V" to "paste" the text into the message.

You should be able to test the link before you send the message, to confirm you have the right one.

Hope this is what you're looking for???

Flash or no Flash?

Thanks Batman.

TSB 09-001-01

I stopped at dealer tonight and spoke to service manager and a couple techs in the back and they wanted to reflash my ecm. I explained to them that I wasn't crazy about it because it could screw up something else, my truck runs great and I love it, hate to see it go the hell. They told me they haven't had any problems with recent reflashes but about 10 updates ago I guess from dc they did have some reflash problems but it's cured.

I still don't know, flash or no flash hate to have a useless oil gauge and drives me nuts. What you guys think?.
