2014 Ram 3500 SRW...6.4 HEMI saga

I'll bet the engineers addressed it, but the bean counters nixed it.

I would think No-Ox or similar grease on the hinge plate mating surface would prevent corrosion.

Yes sir. I was in communications electronics career field in the US Air Force and corrosion control huge particularly in grounding. We had buckets of that stuff... I keep some always. A lot of folks wouldn't believe issues with corrosion, particularly with dissimilar metals.

Thanks for mentioning this.

Friends,

I drove my Wrangler today to get tires rotated and balanced and front end aligned. There is such a HUGE difference in torque on the low end... 3.6L Pentastar 260TQ at 4800 RPM and 285 HP at 6400RPM. I dont think I noticed the lag on the low end until I drove the diesel Wrangler with 443TQ at 1400 rpm all the way to 2800 RPM (nice flat line) and 260HP at 3600 RPM. You can see for local country roads and city driving that bottom TQ and seamless 8spd transmission is a sweet combo.

I just have to figure out how bad this itch is. Got to pay down some credit cards from recent big projects, but Oct Nov might find me scratching that itch.

I rock crawled a Toyota 20R in Iceland and know low end TQ benefits. This 3.0 liter diesel would kill it over there.

For my part the 3.6L is the general purpose motor FCA uses in Jeep Wranglers, Jeep Grand Cherokees, Challengers, Chargers, and Ram p/u's. It has a small power band rather high up in RPMs and my wifes 19 Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 Laramie Long Longhorn gets the same fuel mileage as my Wrangler. I like my Wrangler, but not so much because of the motor and transmission. Interesting side note, my Wrangler has a Ram ECM. Would have never known that had I not purchased Banks Ottmind programmer to change opinions from 3.21 to 4.56 and tire size from 29" to 33.4". Doesn't really matter, just interesting they are interchangeable.

Mopar did this with the 225 slant six, but that was a great motor. Had it in a Valiant with auto, and it had great power, economy, and reliability.

Also interesting on the Jeep website, Rubicon only offered 2.0L Turbo motor. That's the least of my choices, you can imagine the revs to get TQ. I imagine it sounds like a rice burner.

Anyhoo, still studying it.

Cheers, Ron

I drove a 4 door Rubicon with the turbo 4. It had a bit of turbo lag right off the bottom, but felt torquier than the 3.6. It actually had a lower redline than the 3.6. Other than requiring Premium gas, I really liked it.

My nephew has a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The darn thing with the factory front/rear lockers is impressive for a factory equipped vehicle.

The Jeep was passed down to him from my brother-in-law and has well over 100K on it with absolutely no issues. And like any 19 year old kid would do, he certainly tests the thing off road.View attachment 123270
I drove one on the Big Island in Hawaii. I loved that Jeep. No rattles, nothing with 28K of rental customer abuse.
