I had the opportunity to test drive a brand new 2500HD Chevy with the Allison and Duramax combination and the sticker on it was approaching the $40,000 mark. I figured since dodge has always been good about taking 4 or 5 grand off of my trucks so would chevy, WRONG! They said $1000 off was the max take it or leave it. Not that I was seriously considering giving up my truck. Just checking out the competition and seeing what the new 300hp truck was like. The salesman claimed it had 300 rear wheel horsepower. I was very dissapointed. It may have run a little better than a stock Dodge but I don't think it would outrun the HO Cummins. Sure couldn't touch a modified one. And think of what you could do to the dodge with the extra $8 or $9 grand you would save buying it.

300 HP at the wheels #ad
Let's see: add 20% for driveline loss that makes a whopping 360 HP at the flywheel. Hmmmm... . #ad

It's good to know that Chevy has their own portion of ignorant salesmen.

Cummins Power, don't leave home without it

I'm sorry you wasted your time but the first two efforts they put out were garbage and their salesman used the same pitch on those motors (lots more power, torque, etc. ). Let's face it, GM is gonna help DC sell more trucks than DC could hope for. #ad

I used to be pure bowtie. If it wasnt chevy I wouldnt drive it. After poor experiances with X bodies brakes, rust through, exploding V8 diesels and very poor dealer service. I swore NEVER AGAIN #ad
to GM. I bought and drove Toyotas and was amazed by the quality. When it came time for a full size truck again being a diesel mechanic there was only one choice. Any V8 diesel I have ever been around has weak torque characteristics. The idea of converting a gas enging to diesel isnt a good one IMO. My first dodge was the old body and the only thing I liked was the performance. Now with two of the new ones the truck will stand with any of them and the engine is beyond reach. Now I would almost like to be proved wrong by GM but the simple history of there engeneering tells me differnt. Good luck test drivers. Two bad it will cost you
$40. 000 to be a guena pig!!

I test drove my friends Duramax-he got it in december. I thought it rocked for a stock truck,my 96 TST#6 auto could barley stay with it empty,so i think thats great for stock-,the alison auto shifts way to much empty-its probably nice loaded though. I still wouldnt buy one-but the engine outperforms the Cummins-hands down,no comparison IMO.
