Duramax Injector Problems

Guys,

I went with my buddy truck shopping today(Ford actually since he's a die hard Ford guy). We test drove a 6-speed long bed crew cab FX4 package and when my buddy hammered the throttle the hose off the intercooler blew off and it sounded like a gun going off:p. Pulled off the side of the road and had to put the intercooler hose back on with a letterman which was quite an unpleasant experience since it was really pooring. Well anyways we took it back and and then I drove it. Tried to start off three times one in 1st and 2 times in low and then finally I was able to go after running the rpms up to about 1500-2000 rpm and then letting the clutch out. Truck is a real dog up until 2500 rpms and then it feels pretty strong all the way up to about 3500rpm. Also noticed that the truck was leaking oil off the bellhousing and had a funny idle. I don't know about any of you but I sure wouldn't want to buy a truck that has these problems with 31miles on the odometer. For kicks I looked at three other 6. 0's on the lot and all three of them had a leaky bellhousing. I decided to let the salesman know and he stated that they haven't had any problems with any previous 6. 0's and not to worry(yeah right). By the way my die hard Ford buddy ordered a short bed F-350 6. 0 FX4 Lariat which I think is a big mistake but oh well its his money .

Joe

P. S. My dads 03 HO would blow away that 6. 0 IMHO

The funky idle and leaky bellhousing are common. The bellhousing fix requires removing the transmission and putting a sleeve in the rear main. Seems to work most of the time. The funky idle. Different story. Computer icp or injectors. None fix it all the time. The good ones are great but the bad ones are real bad. This is gonna be fords first appearance of the Super duty on the lemon list. Imho. I read of a guy checking out 6 on the lot. And 5 of em were leaking oil. The ones manufactured in May seem to be the best so far. They had some issues on the assembly line. I hope they get it figured out soon. Ford isnt on solid ground as it is.

My die-hard Ford buddy drove my SO/auto and barely cracked a smile. He then drove a 6. 0 F-250 auto and was more impressed. Then a 2500 Dodge HO/48RE. Said it was comparable to the 6. 0 Ford. Then drove a 2500 QC with HEMI and 5spd auto. He looked like a mule eating briar all the way back to the dealership. He located and bought a Timberline green Laramie QC LB 4X2 HEMI with everything for $28,800. Very, very nice truck at a very nice price.

2 months ago my brother-in-law and nephew were both driving fords. 2001 F350 PSD 4x4 and a 2001 F150 4x4. They now both drive new Dodge trucks. I think they just wanted to be  like me :p

:D :D :D I've converted 3 Ford boys to Cummins power here at work already and I'm working on some others. All it takes is one ride and drive. One of the guys had 2 Ford diesels and after driving my truck now owns a quad cab 3500 sport 4X4 with the 6 speed.

Mike I hope your getting a commission :-laf

:( HMMM Not yet. But one of the guys is helping me with the purchase of some trailriding mules. I'm still working on a guy with a 6. 5 Chevy diesel. The burnout across the parking lot sold him on the power but he still hasn't convinced his wife on the payments yet.

My Great Great Grandfather had the market cornered on all of the Mules in KC Missouri. If you were going to move freight in KC you had to use his Mules. Now I know why I sometimes feel like a Jackass :)

:D It's in the blood huh? LOL My Wife use to raise Foxtrotters so we thought we would give mules a shot. If we can find some. They seem to do better in the hills around my place anyway. And I can get closer to the wildlife that way also. Our 4 wheelers make to much noise. Oh and I received my muffler from R Harvey for my truck. I'm planning on having it installed today after work. It should quieten things down a little. Next on the list is the transmission followed by the DDIIIs. I'm looking forward to seeing the stroke boys go :--) after my first pass at Rogersville.

My brother hooked his hemi to a tandem axle with 2 cords of wood on it and he said it wallered pretty bad. He is coming from a 6. 8 ford v10. So he is used to big block torque. But he said it was kinda pathetic. I said" I told you that you shoulda got a diesel".

If you can't find a mule you like look at Arabs. They are very rugged and sure footed. I had 2 of them and they are the all terrain animal. Let me know when you get it ready to race I would like to see you whip up on the stroke boys :D
