Yeah, I have never actually seen instructions for the prefilter... However, I think a lot of people oil it, as most of the ones I have seen come through the shop are that way...

When are you going to get a Psychotty for that thing, Chip? :D Heheheh...

Oil will show up on the turbo blades and if excessive in the intercooler also. Anyone that has worked around farm and industrial equipment knows that clean and shiney carbs or air intakes are usually caused by air filter failures, ie the silica/dust particles are blasting and polishing the metal as they make their way into the engine. I'm not bashing oiled guaze filters as I've used plenty of them. The only Cummins that I've had to add oil to (between changes) had a stock box K&N and did eat a bunch of Canadian white (volcanic?) dust. Probably got past the air box seal but I'll never know for sure as I tossed it. Larry

I've run a K&N in my stock box for 60,000 miles. I've never had a problem with dirt or oil. My last oil analysis number for sillicon was 3! I DO bed the filter in a bead of grease in the box, and put another bead around where the top fits to the bottom.
