Rudolf Diesel did not build the machine that bears his name. Rather he developed a theory of internal combustion, plus a few crude prototypes, which he thought would liberate mankind from factory work. Diesel's first patent of a four-cycle engine was in 1892. None of the prototypes he worked on in his lifetime worked very well.

If I recall correctly he invented the internal combustion engine. Then some other guy stole/released his version first. That is were "automobile" came from. Diesel then went to find a more effiecint egine the compression driven engine. Did I recall correctly or an I full of it?

Smoking a Diesel would have a whole new meaning with the Cummins Turbo Hemp engine. At least those that got smoked would be happy about it.
