Pretty easy actually.....

The tools you need are basically a piece of rubber tubing the diameter of the turbo air inlet; a cap or plug for the opposite end with an air fitting/gauge attached; two large hose or rad clamps; a bottle of soapy water; some time and patience..... that's it.

A word of advice... you only need to pressurize the IC to about 20psi. It's enough pressure to disclose most leaks and is not so much that the tube w/cap will shoot off and damage the back of the alternator... . or you fingers... . ask Piers... his finger is STILL black. .

Check all the IC boots/clamps/connections. Go over the airhorn on the intake manifold... . listen closely to the front of the intercooler and use soap spray as needed.

Watch the pressure gauge to see if you have any gross/major pressure drops.

My brother's 92 was so full of holes it was a shock... my 93 was rock solid... no idea why such a difference but there ya go...

Hope that helps...

A little off topic....

But CB, I notice you've done a LOT of posting this week. Are you studying enough? I know you arent out of school for hte semester yet. Dont flunk out on us. Have to get you a study partner from the greek side of campus, huh?

Daniel

:D

Nope, it's just because teachers are taking it easy now that the semester is winding down.

Plus this weekend is a big weekend for me. A bunch of guys and I are going to BOMB my truck, and I am beginning "phase 1" of my bombing plans.

I'm just really excited and things are starting to come together for my truck so I have come up with a lot of questions.

Thanks for the concern daniel. . or should I say, "long lost brother"? ;)

Hey CB,

Have fun and take your time... watch everything. . think it thru twice, do it once... .

I guess you could say your on your first 'Pilgrimage'... ... cool. .

Hey guys, wave bye bye to CB..... don't worry CB if you're not back by Monday we'll send someone to look for you ... :D:D

Pastor Bob:cool:

Hey CB,

If the newly BOMBed truck breaks down, make sure it is on the Greek side of campus right in front of a huge sorority house:D Nothing entices good looking women like the sight of greasy Car Hartts and the smell of diesel fuel. Have fun. There was more than once I wrenched on the W-250 in the parking lot while I was at Purdue.

Jeremy

:D

I'll try to do that.

Operation BOMB commences at 10am Saturday morning.

I'll get back to you guys with the results.

Here's what will happen:

Gauges in

Pump tune

New modified H1C turbo

Maybe some porting and polishing

General maintenance (especially steering)

:D

Old Smoky is offering me a modified hybrid H1C with a different compressor, updated bearing, fully balanced, and ported. He compared it to a PDR HX-35.

I think it might be in this weekend.

While we're on the subject of boost pressures and intercoolers...

How would you test an IC off the truck? I know of a few in junkyards around, and know a place that might can test them, but is it basically the same, cap one end, put the plug and air inlet on the other side, and pressurize it to 20 or so psi? Also, how much boost can I expect to lose when I install it? (based on the 10hp/psi rule; I know I'm nowhere NEAR 400 hp, or even 300. 225 would be generous, I think) I curently have no IC. Right now, I can peg the 40 psi guage at about 58-60 mph in 4th; 65 in 5th. EGTs dopnt climb fast enough empty to catch up before i run against the governor. I KNOW... . 40 psi through a 12 cm housing isnt the best idea, but this cold weather has really woke the old thing up, and I've only doen it a time or two, making sure not to back out too quickly to avoid barking the turbo.

Speaking of weekend BOMBs, My Mach1 EDMs are here; going in the engine in the AM. Would have gone for Mach2s, but the extra $100 will go a good ways toward something else, and I have all the power I need... .....

For now. :D If I towed 10K up the mountains, it'd be different.

Rip said they should flow similar to the 185s that, coincidentally, are also about the same price:mad: SO, While I may not gain a whole lot of power, maybe I can get back to 20-22 mpg, which I have missed.

Daniel (CB's long lost brother)

Also, how much boost can I expect to lose when I install it?

I have 2 diesel reference books that say 4 to 5 psi loss thru an intercooler is typical. I guess we'll soon have some data to learn from:D

Yes, your plan to test the intercooler is how I' do it. I'd get some short pieces of hose, some clamps and fittings and make up a couple of plugs... I'd use a tire valve or similar so the unit would stay pressurized so you could check it with soapy water, submerge it in water, or use a tire gage to check for bleed down.
