I am about to get my truck inspected for the first time since I bought it. I thought I had read that in Texas, diesels only have to do the basic inspection even in emmissions testing areas (I live in the Houston metro area). Is that true? Do you still pay the higher cost or is it the cheaper cost like I pay on my 69 pickup?

Thanks!

I'm in the Dallas area and all they do is the basic inspection cost something like $12. 50 if I remember right.

he he he, good ole texas inspections, don't take it to a place that specializes in inspections, they check crap that you never imagined. just a plain ole regular repair shop is likely the best, I have seen it where all the guy did was write out the sticker and put it on the window. here in utah, they get up tight if your winshield is cracked and everything has to have emissions testing

Hey Mking, I am just south pf you in the Galveston county area and last year I paid like $10. 50 for the 3500. I have never had a problem with the inspection specialty place I go to (bald tires were no problem!) I usually turn up the TST for his test drive around the block and he slaps a sticker on with a BIG smile:-laf

hey Thunder, I'm down 517 from you a stretch in Alvin :)

I used to have a couple compressors over there and I would always eat Top Water at least once a week... I need to get over there again soon! LOL

They are $14. 50, and they will scan the barcode on your door, which enters your VIN into a statewide database... If you fail, they have to enter why it failed, and no matter where you go, it will show up on their computer, the reason it was turned down... Definitely stay away from an inspection station, they make their money off people for the little things... In Texas, they check your E-brake, Low beams, High beams, blinkers, brake lights, windshield wipers, and horn... nothing too serious. . Also, make sure you have a copy of your insurance as well... good luck to ya!

Houston here also, Harris County inspection 5 mins and $12. 50. Back it up, pull forward and stop, look to see all lights working, open hood and look(?????), write sticker, put sticker on, collect money. I am gone.

(Orange County) Same here, but no backing up or looking under the hood.

I live in la porte (Harris county) its just a drive around the building an a honk and your on your way. I too try to stay away from lube places they will try to find anything wrong if they have the part to fix it anyway .

If they inspected them here in this socialist state, CA, it would cost $100 to $200 plus a fee for the sticker. I was considering maybe moving to TX, if for nothing else because they actually use the death penalty, but after reading this inspection crap I think not.

Well they are a might harder on you than they are in TX. 12. 50 Very easy to get. Does not have the CA crap on the eng.
