Big Truck Pricing.............

I'm going to Texas in the end of May. How are the thunderstorms that time of year. How big can hail get before it starts to do damage to my truck? I will be headed to the area just south of Dallas. We have plenty of Cummins trucks here in California, but not too many thunderstorms.

I've watched them on the weather radar we have and they look nasty whenever there's some activity. As far as the month of May, I dunno.

You've got a Cummin's, outrun them!

I've lived in west Texas all my life except for the last 2 years I spend 8 months of the year in College Station going to school. I haven't been in a car damaging thunderstorm yet. They definitely do occur, but there's usually plenty of warning to get your vehicle under a cover before the hail comes.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if I were you.

We tend to have car-damaging hail in some part of the DFW metroplex every couple of years. The worst-case storms, like at Mayfest in Ft. Worth several years ago, are like an artillery barrage but happen very rarely. That particular storm had softball sized hail and wiped out a lot of autos, houses, and even people who were out at the park. In an average year you won't see much bigger than dime-size.

Normally you don't have to worry much about it, like the other poster said you have warning most times. I have lived here all my life, the only time I have sustained much damage was in the Mayfest storm, I was at work and my Jeep Cherokee took a serious beating out in an uncovered parking lot (I was in the lab and didn't know a big storm was on the way).

Thanks for the replies, looks like I have nothing to worry about unless I am real unlucky.

Now if I can just keep my garage from collapsing in the next California earthquake, my truck should be safe for years. ;)
