Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) T'fer case oil change questions

I changed the oil in my T'fer case. It only took 3. 5 quarts, and I had to park it on the side of a mountain to get that much in it.

I was told it would take 4. 5 quarts.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Oh BTW I used Mobil 1 ATF.

If you have a NV241HD the refill is 6. 5 Pints, per my 2000 service manual. Hope that helps.

Oh, OK. 6. 5 pts is 3. 25 quarts.

Parts guy wanted to sell me some extra I guess.
