Here I am

Thank you EPA - No more CRD Liberty

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies

Thanks, TDR Staff

OK, who stole the grades from the Sierra on I-80?

Go Audi Go!!!!!!!!

Well, I am glad that I have our 06! Too bad, I wonder how much more emissions the V6 powered gas vehicle that gets 16 mpg vs our 23 mpg diesel puts out?

Chrysler has opted to not develop a cleaner diesel engine for the Liberty, Gutierrez said. "We couldn't make a credible business case for such an investment, especially for a limited production number of vehicles. "

Sales of the Liberty diesel have exceeded Chrysler's expectations since its introduction in the 2005 model year. More than 11,000 have been sold, the company said.

What a bunch of stuff! They can't make a credible business case for a limited production number, but they could before when they didn't think the diesels would sell as well as they did? It would seem like most of the technology already exists in Europe. It's probably a deal that the European engines have higher NOx output than the EPA allows since they are tighter on CO instead of NOx in Europe.

Epa

I've had it with the EPA and their treatment of the diesel engine. There is no reason the emissions specifications for diesels in this country need to be any tougher than those in Europe. These people have never seen the "big picture", and never will. Diesels save fuel - less fuel refined - less pollution overall. The agency must be run by space aliens.

DCX is pushing to get a new diesel for the Liberty. They are also putting a diesel inthe new Wrangler for '07.

I think Dubya and his administration love vehicles that get terrible mileage. More lining for their pockets.

The Cherokee replacement is the new 4dr Wrangler. Going by memory the wheelbase will be about 116". The Cherokee was 101. 5". Current and next Gen Wrangler is about 95".

Both 2dr and 4dr Wranglers will have the same minivan V6. IMO the 4dr Wrangler(JK) will be underpowered. Installing a V8 will move the vehicle into a different class of vehicle. I think the new classification would change it's mpg requirement.

I've been watch this info unfold over at the Liberty forum. Only thing we know for sure is no Liberty CRD now ('07). The future is anyone's guess. I find it hard to believe that D/C will totally stop producing a vehicle that has been so successful and start producing other diesel vehicles (Cherokee, Nitro). Hopefully, we'll see more of the Liberty CRD in the future. When diesel is $5. 00/gal, I'll need some type of little scooter pooper for daily driving.

All they said was that it wasn't cost-effective to replace the motor with something that would meet '07 regs. I doubt DC is backing away from diesels in the least. What gets me is that if they could just get B20 to a national level supply wise, I would think that at least some of the complicated emissions mess on the '07 engines could be done away with. I just tanked up with my first 10 gallons of B100 on top of about 15 gallons of #2 today and all I can say is WOW!!!!!!--------I'm impressed. I never thought a P7100 could run that quiet. It's very noticeable and the smoke went down to almost nil. $2. 65 gallon compared to between $2. 84 to $2. 98 for #2 in the Pensacola area. Bought it from T-Gill Fuels--------nice folks, even gave me a T-shirt with an attendant on back and a caption that says "I have Gas" :-laf

Heard this news yesterday on Clark Howard's show. Not surprising, but there is good news: Daimler-Chrysler, BMW and Honda are all ready for their diesels to be full players in USA. They are waiting on our fuel to get up to the same standards as Europe. Apparantly that is the reason there will be no '07 TDI Volkswagon as we know it too... If our "beloved" EPA would have mandated fuel be standardized and emissions be "universal" with Europe's, we would already have clean diesel technology. It is coming. It will be FORCED on these left wing, tree hugging b@stards, wheather they like it or not. Our country DEPENDS on diesel powered vehicles. There is NO WAY our trucking, construction and agriculture industry will go backwards to gasoline power. Screw the epa1 I have never understood how using 30+% more fuel (gas vs. diesel) is such a GOOD thing, regardless of emissions. Now that clean diesel technology exists, why can't the enviro nazi epa get their act together and REALIZE we are using MUCH less of their precious fossil fuels than thier own "hybrids" or eco-boxes???

I've heard from a few CRD owners that the little 2. 8L will smoke quite a bit when you romp on the soot pedal.

Methinks that VM Motori / DCX could have gotten rid of the smoke with a bit of ECM reprogramming. For crying outloud, these are common rail engines with variable geometry turbos - they should never smoke (from overfueling) in OEM form.

And the fuel ecomomy is nothing to scream about either! I think they could come up with a more efficient engine and still have good power. A 6-speed would probably do that thing wonders!

At least they're not dumping the diesels altogether. I read where they are putting a Mercedes 3. 0L diesel in the Jeep Grand Cherokee that will go on sale January 2007. CRD engine with 215hp.

Well today while I was passing thru Portland Ore. I heard on the radio where Lithia Doge/Jeep was advertising the Jeep Liberty diesel. They were advertising them in stock and on sale. Go figure.

I haven't heard of, nor witnessed this. But then again my wife won't let me romp on her new baby. Could be true if a pressure box was on it. I think it's as clean as any OEM engine.

I spoke with a DC dealer mechanic a few weeks back and he described the Liberty Diesel as "one big engine check light going down the road". Maybe warranty issues were part of the decision.

Run by people that only know one thing, NO smoke. A diesel that does not smoke, just a haze, will be developed but it can't be done overnight. Cleaner fuel will come from improved refining and with newer techknowlegy it will happen. It seems the EPA thinks just because they want it now, it can be done now. Diesel engines will always be more efficient but they progress slowly. The better fuel progresses slowly. An engine is no better than its fuel. I hear 55 MPG on the VW Bug with the diesel. If enough people owned them fuel prices would go down.
