Just wanted to post a "Thank you" to the TDR and its members. Yall saved my arse today, thanks to a purchase I made a couple years ago. After reading about the "Larry B" starter contacts when the starter began acting up (would click but not engage the motor) on my '98 (now my company work truck), I posted on here and was informed of the upgrade contacts. I bought two sets. I installed the one set in the '98's starter, which fixed it perfectly. I kept the other set in the driver door pocket on my '96, just in case I ever needed it. Well, today it happened and I must say I was a little lucky. The starter "hung on", which I know can burn up the starter motor itself, as well as the fuel solenoid. As soon as I realized what was going on, I stalled it in 4th gear, which kicked the starter out (luckily). Of course this would not have been possible with an automatic. So, I just wanted to warn yall... At the very least, you should get a set of these contacts as a spare. If you have any age on your truck, it would sure not hurt to replace them as a preventative measure. I was lucky. My starter had never acted up before. Truck has 222,660 miles on it as of today. As people have mentioned before, one contact was worn completely out, while the other looked almost new.

Thanks again to TDR for saving me major money on what I may have otherwise assumed was a "bad starter". Well worth the cost of the subscription for tips/advice like this. As an added bonus, it is fun to bash the BHO kool aid drinkers in the political forum!:-laf

I had to replace my contacts a few weeks ago. I know for a fact that before I joined TDR,I would have replaced the starter. JWash1 drink the O's kool-aid... ... nooooo waaaaayy!!!!
