i was told today by my local dodge dealer via phone told the O\D probably went out and that i probably could replace the o\d and tear down the transmission and clean it out and put a seal kit in it , but i don't think i want to put a factory o\d back in it if thats the case ,so what is a good O\D? 1992 4X4 AUTO ,STD CAB

Best advice i can give you guys with the
1991-1993 Dodge Rams is to buy a brand new unit from Chrysler. It comes with a updated heavy duty case improved od unit, heavy duty planetary gears, updated pump assembly, heavy duty rear band, if you try to buy all these aftermarket components brand new and swap out, the only thing you will be saving from the original unit is the pan and the vb. Its really not worth the headaches and it will end up costing about twice as much and you still wont have the same parts. -

You can always update or modify the vb after you get your new unit.
Remember when shops quote you prices they quote soft part overhaul, that does not include all the updated hard parts mentioned above.
PS,
While at DTT i do also sell completely rebuilt heavy duty transmissions for your ap-plications, (91-93 Dodge Rams)it would be more cost effective for you to get one from Chrysler.

Please also note that Chryser sells you a new one not a re-manufactured one. And they do haggle on the price. Use a business name if possible.

If you're goping to go to that much expense, put in a 618 instead of another 518. That way you get the lockup torque convertor that's worth a couple of miles per gallon on the highway.
