I replaced the supply/return fuel lines today. That was unfun. While I was in there I also installed LarryB's starter upgrade. One of the contacts was very thin. I was curious and removed the fuel line from the preheater to the lift pump. That was my problem. The sup/ret lines were in great shape. The lift pump soft line had seen better days. I'm surprised I couldn't see daylight through it. I also raised my idle from about 700 to around 820 rpm's. The truck actually starts. Whoever decided that a non removable clamp should be used for the supply should be fired!

Following Illflem's advice in another post, I identified the fuel shutdown solenoid. The dust boot is as bad as the lift pump soft line. Can the boot be replaced? Does it come as part of a kit? Any Part# and where to purchase would be appreciated.

Thanks to the guys that have been manning the board for sometime but still take the time to help out us new guys. Also, thanks to the NWBombers.

wcjd;

the boot should be available from the locale cummins dealer, in the $20. 00 area. if you search the posts, there has been a number of back yard fixes, so have fun with it.

Solenoid boot (part number SA4153) for $19. 95 from Cummins. Some folks have reported that some Cummins dealers don't recognize the number, I had no problem though.

If you can wait till after the 1st of the year LarryB is going to try and get a line on boots for what they're really worth. How about overflow valve springs also Larry?
