Just got through installing my needle valve into the fuel inlet banjo - in the process of rotating it I hit the rubber boot (or what's left of it, should have replaced it awhile ago).

Re-hooked everything and cranked it a couple times to bleed the air - fired right up.

Whent out to run to the store and it would die immediately upon starting.

Thanks to spending time here I realized it was probably the fuel shutdown solenoid.

Pulled the solenoid and a piece of the boot had gotten caught up in the spring.

Pulled everything apart, cleaned it up and re-installed it without the boot for the time being so I'm at least mobile.

Plan on ordering a new boot from Larry B.

Or should I just rig it w/ a bicycle tube?

For those that did the bike tube thing - what size tube? I'm assuming a mountain buke tube would be best.

How did it seem to seal up around the edges?

Or, is it best to do the Larry thing?

i have done the bike tube, i just left it open on the bottom... ... Piers has the boot for cheap though just bought one for my 98...

I've been driving with no boot for over 200k. About once every 50k or so I have to pull the solenoid off and clean up the plunger.
