On Dec. 9 I posted needing counsel about my truck running poorly, belching out clouds of white smoke, stalling and being difficult to start. I was given a number of ideas and suggestions for how to diagnose the problem and suggestions for how to fix what was wrong. Some members walked me through the process until I thought I had figured out what was wrong and thought the repair was beyond my ability to do in the driveway because it involved dropping the gas tank. A few days later a friend let me borrow a pump to get the fuel out of the tank making it a much safer task and I gave it a try. With the tank off I confirmed that the problem was the fuel tank module, it was literally falling apart and as the fuel level got down to about 1/4 the bottom of the module flipped above the surface of the fuel and began to suck air and as the fuel in the tank went down the truck ran worse and worse. I don't drive the truck much and just now finished the first tank of fuel down to almost empty and now I know the repair was sucessful. I'm happy to report that with your help I was able to repair the truck myself. Thank you very much, I could not have done this diagnosis or repair without your help. I'm beginning to have a couple of new problems with the truck but will not be asking questions until I have done a little more searching and reading. It's nice to know you guys are here.
