I unhooked it. Does anyone know of a problem that arises from unhooking that annoying dinger? So far I havent had any obvious problems, just thought I would put this out there to see if I am going to have problems later.

Thanks for the Help

Mark

I don't know if you care about the chime working if you leave the headlights on or not, but here is how to just disable it from going on if the key is in the ignition w/ the door open:

just take the plastic shrouds off the steering column. You'll see a little black two wire harness that connects to the ignition. Unhook the connector. This will keep the buzzer from going on when the key is in acc or you have the door open, but it will still sound if you have left your lights on or low fuel, etc.

Simple solution... . Open driver's door. On the front door jam. Pull the black push switch out. Clip the brown wire and no more chimes... . Does not effect anything but the door chime.

hook it back up, your cruze works off of it too  dont know why , also your head lite warning with key off , there is a proceedure on Frit'z site I used it and all is fine now, it says cut the baby blue wire under your knee bolster .

On my 99, the pushrod cover on the drivers side of the block blew a gasket, the chime let me know that I'd lost all my oil pressure and I was able to shut the engine down in seconds. I hated the chime but learned to live with it after than.

I would also like to get rid of the buzzer and get a chime... .

Why can't we get a chime that sounds like a jake brake or something else cool?!

You can remove the buzzer, it's attached to the fuse panel in the driver's door area. It's simply a plug in device that removes. I removed the one from my '97 a couple-o-weeks after I got it. 'Course, you won't have the headlight warning anymore, so if you do it, make sure to turn your lights off! I killed a battery one day like that. NEVER forgot again.

Oh yeah, it does NOT affect the cruise on the '97's, or at least it didn't on mine.

Thanks all.

I was on a trip to Stockton CA and I figured out that the cruise didn't work so I had to hook the chime back up (figured that it had to be it because that was the only thing I did to it)

I am going to try one of the other suggestions here, and thanks for the info.

Also at the risk of sounding stupid, who is Fritz and where is his website???

Thanks for the help

Mark

BTW Guages are going in tomorrow

Dave Fritz is a guy who hosts a site that is highly regarded as a great resource for Dodge Ram related information. He's into other things as well, and you can check all that out at his site too.

www.dodgeram.org is the site.

Check it out! Warning: It's Dodge Ram specific info, not necessarily Diesel specific. Your question will fit in the "not necessarily Diesel specific" category.

HTH.
