Does anybody just not have that good ol olympic fuzzy feeling? This year is more like a days of our lives event than anything else.

O. K China is hosting. But so far there has been more scandals that have come out of it that obscures the age old "contest".

Olympics fireworks display was enhanced by prerecorded footage, organizers say

Huge footprints were shown trudging in the Beijing sky to the National StadiumSome of the footage shown to TV viewers featured a computer-generated 3D image

Opening ceremony's darling was lip-syncing, officials confirm

Real singer was deemed lacking in beauty and stage presence

... ... Oh and a medal was won blah blah and the French made a new rule that you can crap talk all you want as long as the talker looses.

Anyhow back to the Bejjing games ... ... .

Scandal of the cancer villages lurks behind Olympic 'green' makeover.

I really could care less about the Olympics. I think the Olympics should be entirely amateur. I much prefer the winter games to summer anyway.

Like George Carlin said "Swimming isn't a sport. Swimming is a way to keep from drowning. "

As a former swimmer I will tell you the swimming is one of the hardest sports there is. . conditioning wise... the only one that might be worse is water polo.

I'll watch female gymnasts and swimmers any day! ;)

I heard on the radio this morning that the average weight of the Chinese female gymnists is 77 pounds. For the US it was about 105 pounds, give or take 3, I forgot exactly. And they are required to be 16 years old. A lot of people are saying China is cheating, which, I expect they are.

Swimming is great way to build your stamina up (known as wind in the sporting world). Less knee injuries!:D

Cycling is pretty hard too not that running in track isn't (sprinting and distance).

Not to mention a friend of mine from High School, had her Father murdered the opening night, and her mom escaped the same fate by not much more than a prayer, and all of it right in front of her. I am sure you are all familar with the story about the USA mens volleyball coaches father in law being murdered in China, I know the family.

I know murders happen here as well, but the whole thing hit home when I heard that the CEO of Bachmans was the victim... all I could think was "thats Wiz's dad!" All through HS her parents, especially her mom was involved in many things that I participated in. Honestly, THE nicest people I have ever met! My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I still cant shake the thoughts of it out of my head. How some one so nice, could be murdered for what seems to be no reason at all and completely random!

So yeah, havent really cared to much this year, as it makes me think of something that is weighing heavy on my mind. I am glad to hear that Barb is pulling through, and looks to make it. At least Wiz wont lose both her parents, even though I am sure her mother will never be the same! :{

2 minutes of Olympic trampoline followed by 8 minutes of commercials kinda turned me off.

The Olympics are a waste of time.

Trampoline is an Olympic sport?

Tool Man, many would rate all that false stuff, 'Original Thought', just think of all the thought that went into it, and pretty cheap also for three half cooked bowls of rice, total cost paid to the engineers. Claims Washington on the look-out for people like that to balance the Budget. Today when people talk of, 'Chinese Junk' they are not referring to Chinese Ships any more.

Personally, I think it's swimming, then running, then cycling in order of difficulty. Swimming is really hard.

I enjoy the olympics, mostly because it's a chance to see track and field televised, which is one of my favorite sports.

What I don't like is communism.

No, and you speak volumes there. "Cheap" is not in the Chineese language, It simply crosses over to efficient. We as Americans use "Cheap" in conjunction with cost and to some flavor that holds true. The reason we see "Cheap" products is a direct relation to China's very efficient labor force. That in turn lowers the cost of the end product.

I highly recoment the special that in In recent weeks Ted Kopple had a series that I watched and I was absolutly facinated and have scince turned a different view on the Chineese way of life.

Tool Man, all of Chinese success comes from American Industrial Might and Capital, and I will add, a Slur on and of every American and others who ever Died and Fought for this country, took the Cream the of the Nation for Monetary gain, and wouldn't care if the country was Ruined in the process. One can do wonders with figures but for whom? If it claims Americans can buy quality goods cheap, Cheap? at what cost to the average American workers? I came to this country in 1955 at 28 years of age and well travelled, and my wife and I Blessed each day we've lived here. For years a man or women could find work anywhere I was aware of, good paying jobs, productive work, not make up jobs. Never heard of any homeless in numbers or chronic unemployment, no schools crying Poverty or any State, County, City in trouble with lack of finances, the Interstate roadways started, never heard of any slowdowns for lack of funds, now we seem crippled, and helpless, each political party blaming each other for the country's problems instead if trying to solve them together. Time we started to look to our own country to fill its needs, the balance of the value of goods are stacked against us on import and export, even Canada exports more to us than they import, at least I feel to be fair it should be close to equal, for 3rd nations we could help to make them achieve a better life, but not by feeding and throwing money to them. This country was built on American labor capital or otherwise. I am very sad as I knew the country in better days for all, Capital and Labor, I feel America is failing its youth, doubtful if most will enjoy the benefits of this Great Nation as I and our children have. Gone on a bit, but this is Honest as I feel.
