did you see the figures on that truck 650-360 . I can't believe that Dodge is letting this battle slip away :{ :{ :{ . what do the rest of you think? get angry say something :-laf :-laf

In my opinion no matter what kind of numbers the Izuzu engine is coming out with there is no way in size shape, form, that V8 will every accomplish in low end torque or mileage numbers compared to the Cummins...

It seems to me that most of the reason they are making more hp and tq numbers is because they got a hot seller at least they are moving some trucks, and most that are buying it are young guys looking for the hot rod diesel, don't get me wrong their are alot of dodges running around that only see burnouts and parties...

if your saying 650hp/360tq. . or did you mean the other way around, i wouldn't trade my 92 12V for those numbers, i don't need Hp, guess most have forgotten the speed limit hampers the use of those extra horses, with the cummins your getting much more... I don't think i would worry to much or get upset, just remember you have a far more superior, bullet proof engine than any other truck on the street when it comes to diesel engines. Plus with the upping of Hp and torque so does the price tag, for what a diesel engine with aluminum heads and made by Izuzu

The stock numbers don't mean much to me. I'll BOMB it anyways. :-laf I probably saver near $30k BOMBing this truck, vs. buying a brand new one, even if I could. Let some other dummy (people who trade just for 5 more hp. ) take the hit driving it off the lot. :p

Have you gjuys seen the ads that GMC has come out with about the 350/650? It shows a long line of 18-wheelers climbing a hill then this GMC pulling out and passing all of them. I'll start believing it when I see a cummins rolling smoke or at least a decent haze getting beat but it will never happen. Its all propaganga

I like my new Chevy, I bought it for work and pulling my Dodge to the track. I put H2 hummer wheels on it and 285/70R17 tires on it, I'm running 1600 rpm at 65 MPH and 1700 rpm at 70 MPH. It's as smooth as can be, nice and quiet, and the seats fit me perfect. My plan is to keep it a few years and trade it around 80,000 miles, before resale takes a dump. Life is too short to be brand loyal. The Dodge I will keep forever. ;)

Some of us are more interested in other things, reliability for instance, instead of hp/trq numbers.

I Drive a 04 DM, and a SD250 gasser, at work. Interior doesn't look any fancier, the auto headlights drive me nuts, I don't care for the low rider seats that have one peering over the dash (this goes for the 3Gs also), Don't really prefer IFS, the sixer is as finicky as the NV5600 for shifting (and I like the NV5600), and we had the DMF clutch replace on two, maybe three, of the DMs in less than 36K. Having said that, once you get

Think I'll give my ol' 97 an extra hug today. :p

May be BS, but people are talking about 750-800lbs on the upcoming 6. 7 L 2007 Cummins. That would be sweet from a factory motor. :)

Makes me wonder what turbo that 6. 7 has...

SEVERAL of us 'ole Ky boys have seen cummins test mules running the interstates... .

One of those trucks has a very uumm Free flowing exhaust so to speak...

You know i was thinking last night as i posted in this thread its like they are reinventing the wheel, with numbers like that from a factory engine, why not just put them in a much larger truck, maybe im more conversative when it comes to things like this, the '00 i have gets me down the highway quickly enough(got my first speeding ticket with it LOL) the '92 does the same for speed and pulling power.

I can see many guys that are sled pulling and running 1/4 miles times buying those, it would be right up there ally and with a few tweeks they would be trying to out hp one another. I also wonder if the NHTSA( nat. highway trans. safety authority) how ever you say it, will be thinking the same thing, im surprised with numbers like they have now on the new DMX and Cummins they haven't said *whoa*... maybe im thinking all wrong though.

I laugh every time Ford and Chebby "tweak" a little more power from their diesels. The Cummins B model has been available with 660 ft. lbs. in heavy duty trucks for years! It's still de-tuned for pickups! As the hp war goes on, the dookiemax and the powerpuke will experience more problems and failures while the Cummins keeps chugging along.

Mhuggler thats another valid point out of the box... Cummins was made to move it... . Izuzu and Navistar engine has to prove it... Ohhh i like that LOL

For those of us that grew up during the muscle car days I think the insurance companies will put a halt on the wars just like they did in the late 60's and early 70's.

The truck I have now does everything I need it to do so I do not really care about the higher numbers any of the manufacturers have come up with. I care more about the dependability than racing stop lights.

Ahh the Dmax is a BIC lighter. Those you definately unload when the warranty is up if you haven't already like I did.

i forgot about the ins. companies Dave, if nothing else they will say enough is enough, the rates have gotten out of sight anyways, they don't judge you on your overall skills and background as a driver, they group us in age brackets and gosh i can't wait to get out of the bracket im in, other pple my age are killing me on insurance rates(those causing accidents that is).

straight sixes

They forgot to mention in that commercial all those 18 wheelers that the GMC was passing have a straight six under the hood, there must be a reason for this as far as I know no V8's are available for serious hauling. Stormy

Ive only seen that commercial once but if I saw it right the trailer had three pieces of large diameter aluminum duct work. If I'm correct that would weigh like 1000 or 1500 pounds plus the weight of trailer. Wow thats impressive. Might as well hook that load to a half ton gasser.

dave

Like everyone has been saying, we have the durability that the other 2 can only DREAM of! They have have a whole 40 more ft/lbs and 25 more horsepower, but hopefully there owners keep them clean so they look good on the hook coming back from the track!!! :)

it was 3 20' pieces of 24" steel colverts... big freaking deal if you ask me. I had 5k lbs of scrap steel on a 4k lbs trailor 2 years ago and spanked a duracrap on the freeway that was pulling a car trailer... and my truck was still stock. Seriously, that commercial is gay. I say take the big three and do that same run, and I can garantee that the results would be totaly different!

Lastly... . who doesnt pass Semi's fully loaded on steep grades? Hell i do it all the time fully loaded with a trailer, and do it with out even laying in to the throttle... again, I say... DUMB *** COMMERCIAL! when will Ford and Chevy learn that thier commercials are, well far fetched and just not realistic! I like Dodges commercials, just down right flat out "here is our truck, its bad ***, now buy it" none of this, "hey look, we can lift a semi over our truck, as ya know, you need to do this from time to time! :-laf )

Although I would not like to own anything but a I6 Diesel for real work, I would not sell the Isuzu short.

From what I understand the Dmax was designed by Isuzu and is built by GM.

Back in the 80's I had three Isuzu diesels (1 pickup, 2 Chevettes) and found them to be wonderful engines.

Also Isuzu has been building diesels, including very large engines since the 20's.

HEHE. I knew before I even started reading this would be a good thread. I have some performance and racing ability for the new D-max because my friend's dad bought one. My 96' walked all over it in a drag race, and my 2002 pulled it backwards across the yard. Its nothing to write home about.

I think I finally got him convinced that the little Cummins is no joke.

He kept talking about... "no replacement for displacement". "I got 400 hp" (RIGHT :-laf )

He didn't believe me when I told him there was no replacement for Cummins.

As for the semi commercial, I haven't seen it yet, but there are a few V-8s in road tractors and they will tote the mail. CAT 3508 comes to mind in a friend's 379 Pete.

But back on subject. The trucks that I beat the new D-max with are as they are in my sig. Nothing special, and I beat it.
