Cummins in Ramcharger

Ok lets hear everyones opinion on the best 89-93 Bombing route. I currently have the Lucas/Delphi injectors from BD,these run alot stronger than the PW's, fuel screw in 1. 5 turns, timing at 1. 65mm,16cm2 housing,Banks exhaust with the walker 21468,K&N filter,Radiator fan removed, replaced with dual electric set up. With this setup It makes 40 lbs boost on flat ground. Egt is controllable with my foot,I do not have an intercooler yet but have one in the works. I am considering a 12cm or 14cm wastgated housing.

Cool! 5. 9 in a GMC! I second the motion for the 12cm² housing.

Very Cool! Lets see some pictures of that install!

Pics and tips please! I have an '82 Blazer with the original (honest!) 6. 2L diesel with 290,000 on it at the moment. Need to put a 5. 9L in it at some point. I can fab the mounts for the engine, transmission, and transfer, but need info on the "details".

6BTinAGMC,

WHen you take off the 16 turbine housing, I will buy it from you. I plan on towing in the future, and can live with a little less boost if I can keep my EGT in check at 5000 ft. 40psi? THat's great. I only get 22 with my stock set up, fuel at stock.

Daniel's current truck: 1993 W350 club cab, 5 speed, treadplate aluminum flatbed, 4. 10 rear end, straight pipes, K&N, "slightly" tweaked pump. ISSPRO color coded pyrometer and 50psi boost guage. IRBCTS.

I am working on getting some pics. I think I am going to use a 14 housing,I don't want to increase my EGT's or lose any top end performance. I have got 12,16,18 housings if anyone would like to trade for a 14cm wastegated.

As far as the conversion the first thing you'll have to do to your Blazer is put a Dana 60 under the front, and I would put a 10. 5 inch 14 bolt in the rear. They will both bolt in,try finding a 1 ton for a donor. I used the dodge 98 up NV4500 5 speed with the 94-97 bellhousing, and a 89-93 np205 out of a dodge/Cummins,Which bolts directly to the NV4500. You'll need to keep the gear ratio reasonable to cruise on the highway I have 4. 10 gears with 35 inch tires which works just fine(1893rpm@65mph).

6BT, will that 12cm housing give you lots of boost at the top end? I've heard that the smaller housings seem to lack the push at high speed. I run 14cm Banks(Holset) with the wastegate and notice that power is always available even at the top end, just curious if you or anyone else could provide some insight as to turbine size and performance capabilities/drawbacks.

6BTinaGMC,

Cool, I just bought an 83 Dodge 1 ton 4x4 crew cab that has a 440/auto/np205/dana 60's front and rear. I am currently doing my homework on what transmission I want to run in my truck.

Since the NV4500 will bolt up to the np205 is it safe to assume a 47RH auto trans from a 96 dodge will bolt up to my np205? I have heard from CrewCabDiesel that there is a special input shaft for the diesel NP205's though.

Thanks for any input

Yes the input is different, you'll need a np205 that came out of a 89-93 ctd dodge. I don't know if it will bolt to the auto.

Paul,
Both Imput and Output shafts are different on the 89-93 NP205 from the 88 & down NP205s Remember that the u-joints are a lot heaver on the Cummins than on the old gas trucks(I would bet that is true on GM as well). I did the imput first and I am going to do the output shaft/drive shaft/rear yoke assy when the weather lets up. Also I am going to change gear ratios to 3:54(any one need 4:10 gears cheap?). I am afraid right now to work the truck because of the light u-joints.

1985 DODGE 1 ton Crew Cab(imported from California with no rust) W/8' box converted to 4X4 in 1999. Converted to a non-intercooled 1991 Cummins Turbo diesel & 5 speed Getrag in 2000(wife can't drive a stick :). Freshly rebuilt and balanced Cummins. Rebuilt Injector pump and tweaked. 4:10 gears, limited slip rear end, 205 transfer case, 16" Goodyear GSA Wranglers and LE Package and a Sony CD Stereo. Next add-on some “Banks” toys ! Wish Dodge would build a new Crew Cab in 1 ton. Last year for the Crew Cab was 1985. If you want to know why I did all of this, 2 kids, one on the way and I can't stand Ford and Chevy. The u-joints on the 89-93 are 1410 series, the chevy one ton are 1350. The 1 ton pre 89 dodge are probably 1350's also which I have been told are just as strong if not stronger than the 1410(weaker center section)but able to run with more angle. My 2 piece driveline has a 1410 at the T case and 1350's at the carrier bearing and rear end,no problems so far.
