Tek Nek have received 17 reports of battery chargers and wires overheating, while vehicles were being charged. Two consumers burned their hands while unplugging or charging the vehicles.

The Tek Nek vehicles being recalled are powered by one 6-volt battery and were manufactured before April 2000. The vehicles are made of plastic and were sold under the following model names: Prowler, Dodge Ram, Corvette, SPX Motorcycle and Honda. The model name appears on each vehicle. Some models have working lights and horn, engine and music sounds. A label on the vehicle reads "MADE IN CHINA. " Tek Nek vehicles are intended for children 1-1/2 to 4 years old, and the vehicles' speed ranges from 1 to 2 mph, depending on the model.

Toy stores and discount department stores sold the vehicles nationwide from July 1998 through April 2000 for about $89.

Consumers should stop using the vehicles immediately and contact Tek Nek at (877) 446-7719 between 8:30 a. m. and 5 p. m. CT Monday through Friday to receive a free, new charger. Consumers should not charge the vehicles or let children use the vehicles until they have received the new charger.

Try a 12 volt out of a lawn tractor. Just be careful, it will double the speed and the launches are pretty snappy. :D You can charge it with a trickle charger.

Another bonus is that battery life will triple.

It wont burn my motor up on the toy ???

I have 2 hot wheels batterys and a charger ... If The company is not cooperative I may do a convert on it ... . I attempted to use the 12V charger on the 6V battery ... for just a min or two... . with no sucess at all ... . things heated up a bit ...

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that BOMBing voids your warranty :-laf

The mod worked on mine but I can't make any guarantees. Another thing you may want to be concerned with is the electronics that make the voices and sounds if they are powered off the main vehicle battery.

You will need to wire the 6V batteries in series to use a 12V charger.

The sound buttons use AA baterys Im calling the company today to see what kind of a deal there doing on the chargers . IF I get the run around I may pick up a 6V Power Wheels charger and cut the connector off and wire it to the 6V battery that should do the job ... ... if not ,,,

Im going to tub it out and put my spare Power Wheels 12V motor in it and throw in both 6v batterys and Have that baby runnin' ,,,, CAN YOU SAY TWINS !!!

If things "heat up" too much, the battery could be dead and will not take that charge. My wife picked up a "bargain" rider at a garage sale. After I bought a new battery which also required a new charger since the other type had been discontinued, the "bargain" became an old toy at a new toy price. But, the grandkid loves it!

I put a wheelchair battery in my daughter's jeep, that thing would really move after that plus I didn't have to recharge for a week at a time versus every 20 minutes with the stock battery. Never did burn out any motors. John

I took those crappy 6V batteries and chunked em. Went and got me a deep cycle trolling battery that fit the place almost perfect. I now use my boat charger on trickle charge. It last for hours and hours. Had an electrician buddy, make sure those little motors were actually 12v motors (power wheels classifies them 6V to keep speed and power down). Now I don't worry about overcharging or having to charge it every 20 minutes or so of hard use. Kids love it.

Well the company refuses to answer there phone !!!!

They did reply to my email but it just feals fishy to me ... ... ... ... Im Bailin'

Im ordering a 6 V chrager from somewhere And I will splice the connector on ,. ,,,,,, and Im picking up the interstate 6 V Battery to boot ... . about $35 together ,,,,

if that fails Im going with 2-6 Volt batterys and A 12 Volt motor Conversion

That Translates to A 12v with Twins !!!!

Don't know about modern battery chargers - my 1974 model trickle charger has a 6/12V switch on the front.

Mission Complete

Got my interstate battery today from interstate Total ... ... $20. 26

Got the charger and connector today From zBattery Total ... ... 13. 39

Seen my boy riding it ... ... Priceless

Hey when you get the power turned up on those things it will just spin the rear wheels. (Is there a connection) I wrapped my sons tires (he had the ole Bigfoot) with small inner tubes-front and rear. Helps with the steering and for more traction. Also makes it a lot more quiet on the concrete or asphalt

surfaces.

They had races at our local race track with these toys. First weekend everything was stock. The second weekend was a little scary. It seemed everyone had the same idea about more power. Poor kids had a hard time controlling them. It was absolutely a blast watching these kids motor these tuned up toys around a coned off track. As DM stated-Priceless.

well seeing as how im prolly the youngest here i will share my powerwheels experence with you guys i just sold the thing a few years back it was the bigfoot ford and you know those cardboard tubes that have the wrappin paper on it me and my dad ductaped them on as stacks yes i bombed my powerwheels with stacks when i was liek 3 or 4
