what is the best synthetic atf out there. I am ready for my next trans service and want to upgrade to a synth and also put some into my transfer-case. I could not afford a bill c valve body so I am haveing the tst shift kit sent to me since I will be doing the 250hp plate. has any one had experience with only doing the shift kit instead of buying a valve body. where can i get the amsoil atf , does royal purple make a synth atf? thanks for your help

RP Synthetic ATF

Royal Purple offers a full synthetic atf but it is formulated for Dexron III / Mercon specs. It works in the Dodge transmissions but does not meet the warranty requirements (if you have warranty remaining).

It is available in quarts, 5 gallon pails, drums etc.



Royal Purple also offer a high film strength version used in off road heavy duty applications called MaxATF HF. It again is rated for Dexron III / Mercon and is only available in 5 gallon pails and larger packaging. This has been used in fleet service with the Dodge Cummins with excellent results.



Dodge specifies a Type 7176 Mopar ATF +3 for warranty use in 1994 and newer 4 speed automatics.



For the First gen 3 speed trans, Dodge recommends a Dexron / Mercon type fluid.

The new Amsoil ATF meets all the current specs. Although as redram pointed out, you can use the ATF +3 spec.



As for shift kit info, call Dave Goerend (link on the links page) and he can help you set up your valve body (I would advise against the instructions in the Trans-Go kit which I think the TST kit is). He also has an affordable torque converter option which helps the drivability of these automatics a lot.

Amsoil in my transmission. It should handle the high temps that the TC puts on it that you won't see on you pan mounted temp probe.
