I heard a good one on the news tonight. The environmentalist whackos here in this Washington (state) (yeah there's plenty of 'em here) are always getting their BBDs in a bunch over the Salmon in the Columbia River. All those poor little fishies trying to get past the big bad dams  The corps of engineers spends millions annually on efforts to help them pass safely up and downstream around the numerous dams found on the Columbia.

Tonight there was a news story about American White Pelicans flocking around the dams and taking advantage of disoriented fish that have just negotiated the fish ladder and feed on them as the fish are rolling around near the surface of the water. Now the enviros have an issue where a protected bird is preying on a protected fish. What to do, what to do. . .

The corps is now spending $$$ to track the pelicans, monitor their fish intake, and come up with methods to discourage them from hanging out at the dams.

The life of an environmentalist is so hard.

Morons

LOL Duane! But do you think a pelican spending its entire life in the NW will recognize one of these?

Actually gators did swim the Columbia and Snake river once for a few months. In the '50s when the government was doing radiation studies they had at least 50 gators as part of their study. One night they broke out and beelined for the river. They rounded about half of them up within a week, but it took as long as 6 months to find some of them. They migrated up the Snake river which is quite a bit warmer. Some were found more than 50 miles away. They probably ate salmon but undoubtedly the ones that were never found didn't survive the winter.

What about the seals or sea lions that swim all the way from California to munch on those taste salmon ?

BTW - pelican tastes similar to spotted owl with the texture or chicken:D
